I was testing my Primus 210 alco stove and think I have learnt something today, when it comes to the quicklighter. It has a small flame that keeps burning after the preheating and gets the stove going so I don't need to use a second match. That was a new thing to me! Nice.

Think the small flame can be seen in the picture

Yes. They are very convenient. Replica ones are now available on the bay of evil.

    Cheers

Here is a Youtube video showing how a quick/auto lighter works.

@Tony Press More accurately it says "Primus Lighter": https://digi.kansalliskirjasto.fi/pienpainate/binding/358156?page=22 and here https://digi.kansalliskirjasto.fi/pienpainate/binding/358156?page=12 "Burner N:o 4135 that has a Primus lighter. 'Pikasytytin' would be a 'quick lighter'...

For many 'quick lighter' is a torch type lighter on the side of the burner that operates with kero&pressure from stove tank. (Like one in Optimus 155 and Heinze military stove.) Since it is a bit faster than priming with Meths.

I often think it would be a good idea to have a “dictionary” of the names given to various bits and pieces, but everytime I start down that path, I find that even the same company, using the same language, has different names for the one object.

I might put a spreadsheet together...

Being a bit of a pedant, can I ask you about the “hyphen” ( - ) in the Finnish catalogue name? In English “Primus-lighter” could mean specifically the lighter made by Primus (or invented by Primus), while “Primus lighter” could mean the thing that lights a Primus. [The rules for using a hyphen, in English, are not really firm, though; and they are changing].

    Cheers

I always called them igniters, just the term I use. They are very handy. Handy also are the "dimple" ones. As the spirit cup empties, a bit of alky still burns in the dimple; time to light up. I wonder why they went away? The igniter is a clip-on and can get lost; not so with the dimple.

I can see the dimple may not work well with a silent....

The name that Primus gave them (in English) was "Pilot Lighter".

WOW, so if I am right, the tube with a wick in go near the bottom of the cup and you have to add enough alcohol to wet the wick then the fire from the alcohol light the vapor gas from the wick. Right. WOW

Roarer lights up easily from meths that is almost finished so I think that I have not seen pilot lighter on them. Some blow torches has also pilot lighters...

@Tony Press Yes, standards names for various bits & pieces should be defined so that kind of spread sheet would be good to get. Although it is useful to know various names that people are using so it is more easy to find spares & etc. with search engine.

On that time when that catalog is made "hyphen" connection to Primus has meant that part is something (very) special from other manufacturers (and maybe Primus invented). Like in this page https://digi.kansalliskirjasto.fi/pienpainate/binding/358156?page=21 there is "ulkokupu" (=outer cap) available made of brass (=messinki) and Primus-metalli (Primus-metal). Later is steel version but maybe Primus has something special material on it or at least they want to give that kind of impression.

Here is one of my Primus 210 stoves with a Pilot Lighter.
The Pilot Lighter works fine with a roarer burner.
