Marc, Snwcmpr, see what you did....this was on my porch the other day. First new kit in 25 years. It’s in my wife’s pack now. She might let me use it if I ask first.:content:

    Seriously, Craigslist.

    https://salem.craigslist.org/pts/d/lebanon-methanol-alcohol-race-fuel-or/6789800930.html

"I have nearly a full drum, probably 45-50 gallons of methanol alcohol surplus to my needs. Uses include, bio diesel production, race fuel, de-icer (main ingredient in windshield washer fluid), or as stove fuel, to name a few.

    $100 cash."

Anyone want to pay $2/gal for Trangia fuel? I have no desire to buy multiple decades worth of methanol, but I'd take a couple gallons. This guy is practically in my back yard, I can go get it and be the central hub for others in the area if we have enough people nearby and interested.

I just picked up five gallons of denatured alcohol from Ace Halls Hardware for $49. It had been there for awhile judging on the dust atop it. I'll sneak back over soon to see if it was replaced at the same price. I might not be able to resist another can lol.

Marc..if you lived closer I'd buy all of your surplus lol.

I didn't buy it, it may still be there. If it was kero I would have grabbed it.

    I missed this until today.
    Now you need a 25.
Which kit did you get? The one on the log, or the one in the air?
Those wooden cups are made by a guy on another forum. They are beautiful.

I am sure that you like that kit, right?

Yes I like the kit. It’s nice to get a new kit with such good construction. Can’t get mine to float, but no wooden cups either, so I’m not sure which set.

We buy bioethanol from B&Q for our indoor fires - I sequestered a bottle for my preheating needs. We get 3 x 2 litre bottles for £13 in store. Damn sight cheaper than meths and does a good job. Just needs a little while to catch if it's really cold as the vaporisation temperature seems to be a little higher than meths.

Yes, we looked at them when we first pondered getting an ethanol stove for the lounge. It's £30 for 12 litres from Ekofuel, it's £26 in B&Q for the same though they don't advertise the fact. £6 a bottle but only £13 for 3 bottles in store. We tend to buy 9 bottles at a time so it's quite a saving :)

Walmart has yellow bottle HEET 4 packs marked down to $4.50/ea, end of winter clearance I think. Someone had already cleared out all the stores in my area, might be worth checking yours. You can check Walmart's website without actually going to the store.

Edit: Looks like it can be bought online at that price as well. Free two day shipping if you spend over $35 and what stock your local store has doesn't matter.

Looks like Walmart may have marked Heet UP for winter!

The 4 packs may not be available in your local stores, but online it's there. Four pack is now $2.65, order over $35(doesn't all have to be Heet) and you get free two day delivery. I chose no-rush delivery instead of 2 day and got a $2 discount for it. So, instead of going to town and battling Walmartians, I get it delivered to my door, for less than I'd have paid in the store. Outstanding.

Just got my tracking info, I now have years of Trangia fuel.

Didn't actually expect this to arrive. With free shipping plus the hazardous material shipping surcharge being in excess of the total cost of the order, I can only think Walmart lost money on this.

Set for fuel for a long time, now.

@snwcmpr Aye sir, definitely no breathing it. If I ever use this while camping and might be stuck in the tent cooking, I'll bring bio-ethanol for sure. Brew up along the trail, I'm not concerned.

@Simes You'll be watching for awhile!

I really didn't actually expect the order to go through.
