Well the oldest stove that I owned was an early 70's Svea 123R before today. I have been drooling over many brass pressure kerosene stoves for a good while now thanks to this forum. I won an auction on a 1947 Primus No.5 today and hope that I did well. It's got all new gaskets, rings, etc. I tried to research it as best as I could (this site was a great help) and hope I did well at $69.81 plus shipping ($25.79 from the UK). It has been rusty and corroded but the cleaning and polishing doesn't seem to have harmed it too much. One of the most produced Primus stoves(most common year of 5S:or seems to be 1937) - 1947 is the year when war time fuel rationing ended in Sweden and the civil production of everything accelerated as never before. 1947 - yes, the government wanted to fill up the emergency stores first - sitting right between two angry dogs not knowing if it should be WW3 next month.
Update-My stove sat in the UK customs for three days and then another week after arriving at the customs office in New York. It was marked "outbound and shipped" two days ago from customs with a delivery date set at March 15th atm. Don't these people understand that I'm having a nervous breakdown just waiting lol ? The agony.... hehehe
Hah. I import for work constantly. Try explaining that $20k profit rides on that shipment they're holding and that the testing they insist will "only" take three months could be done by the private sector in hours. You never met a group of people with less give a damn in your life. Even the IRS cares more.
My stove came in yesterday and I can say that my addiction has definitely become worse now. I accidentally broke my coffee pot last night so it was the Primus to the rescue. I slapped a percolator on it and made coffee immediately lol. I did notice that over pumping it combined with an incomplete pre-heating will cause a tiny flame to appear at the base of the nipple jet and it will quickly go into an over burn condition sounding like a jet taking off. Reducing the pressure and allowing the stove to warm itself solves this issue.
Primus 5 works fine for almost every regular indoor and outdoor cookware. If you use good and clean kerosene it can stand by for years but I think it should be fired up at least twice a year, a small bit of fiberglass wick in the spirit cup is enough to use kerosene for preheat. It is very easy to love that sort of stove.

There should not be a flame appearing at the base of the nipple under any circumstances. I think you need to tighten the nipple slightly (don’t overtighten). Seeing that it’s a silent burner, take the nipple out, put some “copper slip” (copper grease) on the thread, and re-tighten it. Under-burning will ruin your burner caps, so make sure the stove gets shut down immediately. Cheers Tony @Cookie
@Tony Press I agree that there should be no flame at that nipple whatsoever. I have only gotten to fire i up twice atm. I did give the nipple a very slight nudge forward and have not noticed the issue happening again. If it does I will grease it per your recommendation. I do not run any stove while it is under burning. If I can't resolve it I shut them down right away. I was just thankful it was kerosene and not gas lol. If it happens again I will try to get it on video or at least some pics for reference and start a fettling thread on it for posterity. @Doc Mark Thanks. I'm falling in love with this one for sure

Auto parts stores have it in single serve dispenser packs like fast food ketchup. I have most of a quart of it from a previous job's stock rotation. I've given away plenty of it and still have several lifetime's supply. @Cookie If that's it and you can't find it locally, PM me your address.
