It caught me, too, afterwards...also made me think of Siegfried and other Northern heroes.8]

We also use the Sigg frypan for our steaks whether or not we use the Svea 123:

I don't think we've ever done a backpack trip these last twelve years without frying steaks in said Sigg.

It is well to keep in mind that our backpack trips these latter years have been mostly one-nighters, with a two-nighter now and then.

There are several reasons, the main one being that the single overnighters need no advance 'expedition' planning, and we can do them at the drop of a hat.

The gear is always ready. "Shall we go Saturday?" ...he asks on Thursday. "Sure!" So off we are, and we can get in several per Summer.

Also, the last few summers we've gone in 3-5 miles, rather than the 5-8 of a few years back. I'm glad just to be getting regularly into the mountains with a pack still at 71. (I was 53 when I first checked in to CCS....)

This plan allows steaks and wine, eggs and sausage, etc. And it allows for 2 classic stoves. Sure, we could do with one, but after all it's CCS that got me back into backpacking. Classic stoves are a main inspiration.

Steak frying with a Sigg pan is of course not optimal, except given the backcountry issue. One must rotate the steaks horizontally as well as flip them. But they always come out just fine.

[Of course, this is the Nth time I've evangelized for the one-night backpack method...]

Packing food for miles makes it taste better also. If someone hikes by too young to know the joy of brass stoves that’s a plus also.

Had you bid 75 it probably would have sold for 76.

Stop.it you lot, I've a load of homework to do before getting the backpack out, and talk of walking and cooking steak isn't adding to the enjoyment of decorating. :(

If you're still being asked to decorate, then you've clearly done it wrong in the past.

@Simes I took the decorating thing wrong, maybe it means something different on your side of the pond than this one. Over here it usually means hanging pictures and whatnot, women take great pride in such things and most men barely care. My joke fell flat, the idea being that if you decorated in such a terrible way the first time then your wife wouldn't let you do it again and you'd be home free.

I used a food processor to make salad ONCE. I joke about making salad now. And compliment the one that DOES make the salad.

Trying to prep and paint a new kitchen ceiling isn't easy while SWMBO wants to bake and decorate cakes. :(

You're kidding right? That's easy, hardwood coals!! Hickory, mesquite, applewood, etc. Suitable woods are found in most locales. That said, I've never bothered with steaks when hiking. I suppose it would be possible as fresh meat would keep OK for a couple days or so..

It's not a big deal guys, really, do your own thing, but I'm from Iowa, lots of beef is raised here, and what's being done to those steaks is an atrocity, LOL. Are you guys British? ;)

I love my Svea and Sigg Tourist set guys, but ... it's not a very good choice for steaks. It just isn't. It has nothing to do with "perfection", (something I never brought up, someone else brought that up) this is simply a matter of using the right tool for the job. The Sigg fry pan sucks, that's all there is to it. Any of the paper thin camping pans really. It's also a royal bitch to clean.
