Just recently got a 1952 (M1950), it’s badly in need of some tlc, do you guys have any advice for bringing the flame shroud back to life, I was thinking of bead blasting it. Or at the very least a good soak in CLR. The tank will be repainted and new decal added. Thanks.
I see its a 1952 in a 1964 container. I don't know what CLR is, but you could soak the rust in dilute citric acid, or in "Evaporust", to get rid of the rust. Cheers Tony
CLR is a caustic drain cleaner here in the U.S. do not use it on your stove. Evapo-Rust is best, available at Harbor Freight. Developed for the U.S. Govt. to remove rust from equipment and is bio friendly. Coca Cola removes rust also and over time will eat the enamel off your teeth and dissolve you bones. Cleaning you brass parts is best to use citric acid that is available on Amazon, canning section of most grocery stores and Beer and Wine Brewery supply stores. A new Shroud can be found here and while in this store you can pick up some military clothing and equipment to go along with this stove. I am curious...what is LEYSE? Google shows it was an affiliate company of Vollrath which had contracts with the US defense dept during WW2. So how did Rogers-Akron appear on the stove?
From what I’ve learned, when a stove was turned in for repair is was just paired up with a random canister, so the answer probably the stove would have to be brand new to have its original case.
the M1950 stove was a U.S. Govt. Contract that was to create a compact stove for soldiers to cook their combat field rations. Companies that produced the stove under contract were Coleman, Wyott, Lyese, SMP, Fiesta and Rogers. It was issued with a 2 piece canister or the Mountain cook-set that fit into an OD green canvas bag. The 2 piece canister was made by these companies. The canisters and cook-sets were paired up to what was available thru the Quartermaster supplies.
I spelled Leyse wrong. Rogers-Akron is just one of the stove manufactures you have. I have one from all of the manufactures.
