Walmart has not stopped selling guns and ammo. Indeed, it continues to sell any number of rifles and shotguns and rifle ammunition.

Walmart has not sold AR-type rifles, or handguns, for many years. But it has always sold, and continues to sell, 'standard' hunting rifles, and shotguns. It also sold, alongside these, ammunition, both rifle and handgun ammunition.

What happened is this. The El Paso murderer went into a Walmart there and killed numerous people with his AR-type rifle. He was unconnected to Walmart in any way, except that he chose the store there for his shooting. He didn't buy the rifle at Walmart (and, again, they don't sell them), nor his ammo, etc.

So, certain political figures demanded that Walmart stop selling guns, notwithstanding the above. Recently, Walmart announced one 'change'-- it would no longer sell handgun ammunition (!) Additional note-- the gunman did not use a handgun. That's it-- they are 'selling-down' their handgun ammo inventory then won't sell more.

Yet they continue to sell rifle ammo.

It so happened that I bought handgun ammo at Walmart twice in the preceding weeks, by happenstance. I was going to the range and realized I'd left my ammo bag at home. There was a Walmart near the range; I went in and found they had handgun ammo at good prices; I bought a couple boxes, then did again two weeks later.

    So, it's ridiculous.

Their execs have made some inflammatory political statements as well.

A few exceptions aside, I don't understand why companies get into politics. At best, they piss off half their customer base. At best!

    Here's the syllogism:
    Selling handgun ammunition is bad.
Therefore, buying handgun ammo is bad.
Therefore, if you shoot handguns and thus buy ammo, you are bad!

Well, I may be bad, but not for that!8]

    (tongue in cheek)

I have a rifle that uses 9mm, and a handgun that uses .22LR. What's "handgun" ammo again?

Back to fuels, it looks like 5 gallon tins of VM&P Naphtha can be had for around $12/gal. More research is required.

I do like having individual gallon containers better. One opened container doesn't start the clock ticking on the rest of them.

Yeah, my Marlin model 1894 lever-action rifle shoots .44 Magnum handgun ammo.
My 1873 Winchester lever-action rifle shoots .45 Colt ammo.
    Dreaded cowboy rifles!

Historical note for those who don't know: the main American lever-action rifles in the 1800s shot pistol ammunition. In this way, one could have the same ammo for one's revolver and rifle. Such rifles, especially the Marlin 1894 remain viable today as hunting rifles.

And as Marc notes, .22s are probably shot equally in pistols and rifles.

I was at the range just yesterday with an old friend; he's 88 but as active and healthy as a man 20 years younger. Between us, we discharged .22s, .38 special, .45 Colt, and .44 Special in copious quantities over a couple of hours.

It's a great outdoor range in the suburban Tacoma area which has been in continuous operation for over a century.

Sounds like great fun, Ed. A lever action will probably be my next firearm purchase. If I could find one in a cartridge I already stock, so much the better.

I keep several gallons of kerosene and white gas on hand, and several boxes of the various calibers of ammo I use. I try to keep ahead of my needs so I can wait for the sales.

I keep my cellphone charged, my fuel tank above half in my vehicles, and don't let the cabinet run low on TP either. There's just no winning that game! I have a large(possibly even excessive) stock of kero and meths, and will be stocking up on white gas as well.

Method or preferably bio ethanol. Any good source for bulk supply in UK? Desperate for resupply to keep me going until next years France trip. (Purchase assuming exchange rate means it's still cheap)

I didn't do a detailed check but thought I remembered it was up your way somewhere.

For priming and the Turm I can't fault it, I've not tried it punches. :)

A few of us got together and bought a 200 litre drum of Shellite (= naphtha = Coleman fuel) for AUD$3.00 a litre.

Off the shelf it’s around AUD$8.00 a litre.

Translation into American: 200 litres is just under 53 US gallons. Therefore at today’s foreign exchange rate that’s USD$7.99 a gallon.

Translation into UK: 200 litres is 44 Imperial gallons. Therefore at today’s foreign exchange rate that’s GBP$7.28 a gallon.

    Cheers

    Tony

A very excellent price, inasmuch as Coleman nowadays is 12 to 15 bucks per US gallon, and your US $7.99 per gallon is the cheapest it can be found here now: Crown Fuel at Walmart.

Well done Tony. As Ed says, I'd be happy to pay $7.99/gal over here.

We are very fortunate here in central NC. I just bought 20 gallons this morning 2 miles from my house. I use most of it in my kerosene heater for the garage/workshop. BAA937F1-54E4-4112-915A-86CFE25B77A2.jpeg

Dammit, you guys in the US are so fortunate! This sort of service (mostly) died out a long time ago in the UK.
