Just contacted PayPal to advise/inquire of situation w/o opening a claim and feeling much, much better! Gave them details, tracking# and tracking website. I have 180 days to dispute/recover charges depending on how it goes so I'm feeling semi confident again. I do appreciate everyone's input regarding my rookie concerns and especially "buyer beware" comments as every little bit counts, and as per Forum guidelines, I can have thick skin and do not take comments personally.

I do feel embarrassed about one thing in specific, and that is that I took for granted that this Forum is comprised of men only and forgot to also thank any and all Female members! My deepest apologies Ladies!! :(

Not many ladies, and those who arrive often do not stay long, alas. Not because of lack of a welcome, though.

I've wondered how scams like this make money. What's the payoff? Do enough people wait long enough to start a PayPal dispute that by the time they do, the money is gone? Rack up enough PP disputes and then abandon the "company" and start a new one?

I agree, very sad how they do this. My outlook on this will be lesson learned, hopefully not a hard one. Regarding PayPal, they give you time to dispute which I won't waste but hopefully won't need.

You're aware of what's going on, PP will take care of you there. PayPal takes very good care of buyers.

I suspect they are hoping for the rare undisputed buyer, or the collection of information.
They now have a name and shipping address.
Home address, PO Box, Business address, etc.
Even if the buyer is reimbursed they know who the buyer is, and possibly any the payment information that is included in the PP payment.

In this case I suspect the seller has just set a bot up trolling ebay for select items that he can get elsewhere and send via dropshipping at a good profit. His bot has picked up classic stoves and he hasnt realized he wont be able to supply these. All the other items he potentially makes easy safe profit on. Its just we have locked into his mistake. Non stove collectors would just scroll past these

Geeves! Good afternoon sir! Have been waiting for your "tweaking" advice for the Tomshoo wood gasifier, you can send me advice either on this conversation, or to inbox. I am eager for any additional knowledge regarding what I have so far, thank you in advance.

Similar things I have bough of that brand have just not fitted right without some work with pliers drill etc. If it went together fine its good to go but often quality control misses the finer points. If you think in terms of an average new car that was built 99.9% correctly that means 500 nuts are missing

I believe I may have one of the 99.9 percentile, as I don't remember any issues from initial burn in, although I am a short on nuts !

Latest stove update: still on the move, currently on aircraft according to tracker. Maybe flying stateside? Stay tuned, same Bat time, same Bat channel!

If it's anything like the too good to be true chainsaw deals that have come up on another forum I'm on, the tracking numbers will eventually show delivery to somewhere that's not you.

You crack me up Marc! Remind me of a couple of my military "brothers" who were always "barking", which was cool because because it kept you on your toes. I respect your skepticism for this reason, but keep positive regardless. I know I'll be covered if you are and lesson learned, and if I'm lucky well........learned experience either way .

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me!

Dude! I'm not feeling you're coming across like that at all! It's ok and fun, especially since you're not alone with the "watch out" comments, I'm just hoping it doesn't change to "told you so". And if it does, then ok, won't do it again.

In others, and Forum, it's nice to see that honesty is the best policy no matter the form it takes.

Nah, won't be "I told you so." Pointless and mean.

There's nothing about that site to make me think it's legitimate. I'll point out what were big red flags to me:

-All the product photos on the website are from other auctions/listings. This suggests that a bot is automating the scraping process.
-They are auctions/listings that the site can't possibly be associated with.
-The prices are all the same several odd values regardless of product.
-There's a garage door opener in the wine accessories. Bots aren't perfect.
-The prices are mostly well below market to encourage impulse buying.
-The site focuses on the two fairly unrelated product categories of wine accessories and camp cooking.
    -The business address is nonsense.
-A web search of the business name only returned their website and this thread, meaning they have not existed since 2016. Case in point:
-The domain name was registered on 12-02-2020 and only for one year. Real businesses plan to be around longer than that and get a discount for buying two, three, or more years ahead of time.
-It is also registered in Germany, probably falsely.

I suspect that's exactly how it works. Whatever money they get away with is eaten by the credit company and ultimately paid back by the honest customers. At the very least they have people's information to use or sell on the black market.

The info and black market angle is interesting. PayPal would keep all the payment info, but the website would then have someone's name and shipping address. That combined with data gathered elsewhere may prove fruitful to an identity thief. A tracking cookie from the website may even help the thieves keep an eye out for parcels of data for sale from specific other sites that they also know their "customers" are using.
