Hi!: I've been lurking here for a while and thought I would introduce myself. I've been collecting stoves for several months now, mostly Coleman, since we have lots of them in the U.S. My Name is Jeff Hall and I live in the Southern U.S. I work in a retail establishment, which, fortunately for me sells CF. I recently got an Optimus 8R off the unmentionable auction site, and got it going a couple of weeks ago. It was burning pretty good today, so I decided to heat some water for a cup of cocoa. Hope you like the pics! Sincerely, J.W. Hall Certified Stovie
@J W Hall Welcome Jeff. Reasonably cheap Coleman fuel is something we can only imagine here in the UK. Still, Aspen 4 white gasoline now comes in a 25 litre bulk pack, at less £’s/litre in consequence. Optimus 8R looking good. John
Hi Jeff, Welcome to C.C.S A nice 8r, & a good colour flame, I must try to get my 8r to burn the same. My Best regards to you. OPTIMUST.
Welcome Jeff from Downunder. CF here is generally quite expensive and Shellite is our preferred product. The 8R is burning very nicely. Iain
Hi JW. Welcome to CCS. Yes, white gas is cheaper than denatured alcohol lately. A gallon of [red label] KleenStrip is $17 at Home Depot. REI well sell you a gallon of Coleman fuel for under $15. Even less at WalMart for CF, and then they carry Crown, which is only about 60% the price of Coleman. It's actually more economical, for Trangia enthusiasts, to buy their methanol as Yellow Heet, in 12 Oz bottles, for about $1.29 each. 11 YH at $1.29 = $14.19 for 132 Oz. KleenStrip is $17 for 128 Oz.
Thanks everyone for a very warm welcome! I buy the crown brand fuel for about $9 U.S. per gallon. It has worked great for me in all my different stoves and lanterns. I got lucky with my 8R, as it's only had the fuel cap gasket replaced, and some cleaning. I have learned SO much about these great camping stoves here on the forum, and I appreciate the contribution of everyone on the forum. Sincerely, Jeff
