Hi all,I was brought up with stoves as my dad used them at steam rallies in the seventies we always had a fresh brew and fried spam sarnies.i have several I still use inc a small petrol one.My question here is I've just bought a valor 64 w that I'm restoring before use.Ive seen wicks number 200 for £19.is that good.and to spray the tank I need to remove the red gold and black sticker which will disintegrate,does anyone make reproductions please.good to be here and I love messing with fire.

Welcome to CCS @Simon Barker To preserve the sticker, you could try masking the transfer and clear coating it first. Then work on the rest of the stove. A picture or three would be good.
As you can see I've cleaned it up ready for painting.still got tank to do.originally green,black and silver,I'm doing it red,cream and black.i turned my bench grinder into a polisher/refinishing tool and heat resistant stove paint is on it's way.on checking the wick it's fine and looks like it's not been used.i got box with it and a card on string dangling from the pan rest.
Good luck with your project. I have a similar model. Lit it yesterday and the flame has a circular lip extending fully around. Most mystical indeed. I may post a picture if I relight it. Wonder what that flame edge ring is called.
Not sure but maybe it's a burner top cap or burner surround.a pic may help.i should finish spraying my tank tomorrow then in the oven for 20 mins at 150 degrees.then I will add pics.must say it's my first one of these and very easy to work on.
Tricky getting a photo as it can get hot! So this rolling lip is part of the flame and makes a circle all the way around on top of the lower part of the flame. It is not part of the physical stove. Here it is indicated by an arrow. Looks cool (er hot!). The physical effect must surely have some technical name. The rolling lip of flame. Image without arrows. My Valor 65-S Iain
Here is my valor 64 .I've just finished the tank,originally it was green tank and rest silver.so here it is,and on first test it boiled a saucepan of water in 6 minutes.not bad as it's not under pressure like most stoves I have.

Sorry for waking up an old thread, but I thought all the 64's, had 5 pan support bits on the top, and the 65's had 6, but this is the second picture of a 64 I've seen today with only 4 of them. Did Valor change the design at some point?
I've only seen them with 4 and looked at loads.optimus and primus mainly had 3 that slotted in the brass tank.
After posting that I had a little prod about online, and they definatly came with either 4 and 5 fin top plates. Mines got 5, and it was only after I'd noticed a rough one go on eBay with 4 today that I started noticing there were a few others with only 4, but there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to which have which. There's a Valor parts diagram for a 64C that shows it with 5..... Arthurville But I also found a photo of 2x 64C's, a 64G, and one that's been resprayed, where the C's have 4 fins, and the earlier ones have 5...... Looking online it seems 5 is more common, but the age of the stove doesn't seem to dictate if it would be a 4 or 5 fin top plate on it. It's not really important, I'm just finding it vaguely interesting........ Maybe the tops are a rust prone part of the design (Chances are that the top plates on well used 64's are going to have seen their fair share of boiled over kettles and burnt on bean juice), so it could be that they'd occasionally need replacing, and somewhere along the line, Valor changed the fin count down due to cost cutting, or up because people were having fins fail? Subsequently, the fin count on one these stoves today won't necessarily align with what it left the factory with? As I said, it's not really important, it's just a slightly puzzling detail that I was wondering about.
Hello, I got a 64W without fire disk and have been trying to build the missing fire disc myself for quite a while now. But I don't really want to succeed. Does anyone happen to have one left, perhaps from a spare parts donor? What is the diameter of the fire disc and what distance is it from the wick guide? I like the small stoves very much and would be happy if it worked properly again. -Micha
Hi Micha. I just popped the flame spreader out of mine and took some measurements/pictures for you..... Looking at it, I'd say the air hole diameters might be quite important as dispite looking stamped out, they all seem to be within 0.03mm of each other (Though one hole on mine was never stamped all the way through from new), so I'd be tempted to start with something like a 1.5mm drill bit, then after testing, maybe giving them a "Clearance" wiggle with the drill to slightly enlarge them. Do that gradually until it can burn with about a 10 to 15mm high crown of blue flame that has minimul orange on the flames tips. The step in the shaft dictates how high the domed top sits at when in use (It doesn't just sit on top of the wick), so that would be important too. The gap between the top of the gallery (The brass tube that encloses the wick) and the bottom edge of the flame spreader's dome averages out to about 7mm on mine, and when running the top of the wick is about half way up into that gap. Hopefully this info will get yours up and running.
