Really lucky to inherit a rather jolly Primus 96, dated 1957 (serial number 202557 on its leg) was given to me in a fragile yet still intact cardboard box.. Pleasantly surprised with its shiny condition, obviously cared for and loved.. no meths bottle but seems to have everything else I reckon.. seems to go together fine.. Ooooh shiny 4 piece windshield, I’d have liked one of the curved 2 piece ones which I’ll keep an eye out for I reckon.. sitting side by side with my Optimus 45 It did light up but I could tell it was having a few problems, ordered a few replacement washers/seals etc from interweb and swapped them over. Has a stuck nrv so after trying a few things, I’m going to send it to “Mike the Stove” after speaking to him. I’ll update post after it’s operation.
Hi @Blueangelical You actually have a Primus No.96 “Pocket Primus” outfit, which is even more desirable than a plain Primus No.96. These outfits were made up specially for the UK and "Colonial" markets by the British Distributor of Primus stoves, Condrup. Have a browse through the Primus No.96 section of the Reference Gallery, concentrating on the Pocket Primus examples. Best Regards, Kerophile.
My 1961 Primus 210 seems to do the same. The legs don't spread as wide as on my 1929 model and it seems to stand on tip-toes as well. The legs are not stiff, they just don't spread as wide.
Ooooh a Pocket Primus eh, thanks for the info I’ll have a look in the forum for it as you suggest. yeah the tippy toes was me not wanting to extend them fully as they were a little stiff. I’ve applied some 3 in 1 oil since the piccies and they’ve come out more.
Finally had the 96 back from “Mike the Stove” who had successfully been able to remove its incredibly stuck NRV using penetration oil left in for few days, then dried and with the use of their shop tool, whatever that may be, the NRV came out without damage to the stove. so fired it up… Lit first time, no issues and got rather hot rather fast.. Now, if I could find someone to take a cm off in height to the little metal fuel bottle purchased from eBay… So it fits inside the tinsy tin then that would be amazing :-) The bottle btw, purchased from eBay seller juiands, and tbh it’s the best thing I’ve bought from them. The tools and leather cups I purchased have since gone into the bin as the tools were weakly made and the leather pump cups were as hard as card.
Just to add to my stove, I managed to shorten the height of the meths bottle so it fit inside my stoves small tin I put a fine blade on my bandsaw and carefully cut 1cm off up from the base, then cleaned the cut up with a file etc so it was perfectly flat and clean. then heated up the cut off but which had the bottom still attached and it fell off the 1cm ring, after cleaning the bottom but off I pushed the main bit into the base and cleaned it again. Then took a members advice and wrapped it all except the bottom bit with wet newspaper. Then added a touch of flux a some solder to the base and it joined. After checking it was water tight I cleaned it with a small wire brush then polished it up, proper chuffed. Also I’ve made a leather bag for it to keep it from getting dented and scratched.. Now it’s done.
