My stove is labelled Gerry, and the fuel canisters haven't been available for years. I see people using adapters to use the small cans of butane similar to the Gaz stove style, but is there any reason not to make an adapter to use the spray-can style that is more commonly found (and cheaper)? I know the bigger cans are heavier but I don't backpack anymore so that isn't a big concern. Also, anyone have an exploded view/picture if one of these? I was wondering if the old canister nipple unscrewed & could be replaced by a similarly threaded fitting to connect to the adapter hose instead of relying on an orig fit.

    Thanks.

Would be easy to do. Here's some of mine.

Would be simple to do. Here's some of mine running on modern stuff with a lindal valve. They make an adapter to go from the lindal valve (above) to the big butane cans.
To do what I did above, you get a cheapy China stove( dozens on eBay) and use the parts tofit that nipple. In the bottom picture, you can't see it, but there is a small piece of brass tubing soldered onto the nipple to make it a bit bigger to fit the hose snugger.

Thanks. The lindal valve makes sense, although I hate buying something just to trash it (Chinese stove). I also see folks using 1 poun propane tanks with these. I thought propane was higher pressure & burned hotter? I don't plan to try this with the Gerry. Any thoughts about the other part, replacing the brass fitting with the nipple with a different fitting for the hose? Or is that piece part of the valve?

I don't see why you need to change the nipple?

At times you can find just the hose and lindal valve on the bay. But it you buy the whole stove you get a fun sparkie thing too!

That's a cool adapter if you want to go to the bother. But if you just get a piece of brass tubing at hardware store and slip it over original nipple, now you have a good fit.
In the upper picture, I am doing it a different way, that round gold piece has a hole in it, I have inserted a piece of tubing from a model airplane fuel line, and that slips snuggle over nipple. Might go grab a picture, I think I know where it is.

Heck, if you need, I have some brass tubing....

I'll have to check, I don't recall seeing brass tubing at my local hardware store. I would lobe a picture of your set up if you get a chance.

    I'll get more pictures tonight.
My Ace hardware has a section with all sorts of small hobby type metals.

Picture on left, I soldered tube over factory nipple so hose has a better fit, then a hose clamp.
Picture on right, that orange piece come off stove, then slip a piece of model airplane fuel line in the hole. It fits snugly over the factory nipple and works well. I've got more fuel line too if you need some

Thank you. Is that tubing in the left hand picture brass or copper?

Pretty sure it's brass. Of course, copper would work fine too

If anyone follows this thread, the ebay stove link now shows an alcohol stove. Search the text & you will find a number of stoves like Majicwrench is describing, one of which I have on order. Once I see teh hose ID I will see about getting some brass tubing.

Funny that link flipped, thanks for noting that.
If you need some tubing let me know.
Looking forward to seeing what you end up with.

Well it took a while for all the parts to get here (there apparently is some truth to the phrase "slow boat from China) but it is all together & seems to work ok. Thanks for the help.

Did you put something on that needle so it fit snuggly in the hose?

Did you ever get an answer to your question. I have the same problem in that I have a ole Primus backpacking stove and a Roberts LP Butane Fuel container. Trying to figure out how to hook the stove up to this container. Seems my butane container has a small hole in rubber on the top and it looks like I at one time must have had some fuel container that screwed into the Primus but the Primus looks like it has a needle that would go into the LP container but it is way too short and the LP container does not screw into it. I am so confused.
