Radius No. 5 S.or R (Regulation on riser tube)

A rather strange Radius has found its way to my collection.

It is model «No 5 S.or R» and has regulation in the riser tube. Suggestions are that R may refer to Revolto, as they manufactured different options to such stoves?

 

Wow, what a find! New to me, although the variety of Radius products over here isn't great.

Unfortunately you miss the torch.

The other revolto version Revolto-lighter valve with leg extension, that I have on Juwel 2, is adaptable to any stove riser (2 pints size) with the additional supports extensions.

Ah, so it's an on-off valve designed for use with the torch rather than a true regulator?

 

Yes, that seems to be the case.
In order to apply pressure to the tank, for the Revolto lighter to work, while avoiding spill of fuel, the valve on the riser tube is needed.

 

@Blackdog it can also act as regulator.

I have a friend who actually owns one of the Revolto lighters, I am already «discussing business» with him :-)

It sits on a Norwegian Høvik Verk stove. It would match my Radius in a much better way, don’t You think? :-)

"from other hand" - interesting is question:
- if Radius regulated burners are "most popular", why or whats for - in production Revolto valve was used as fixed ?

fuel cap torch with classic regulated was cheaper simplest and more effective...

@Blackdog I can’t talk precisely for this version, but it should behave like mine.

Absolutely less precise and with a lag, that’s because the valve is below the burner (and so not in proximity of the jet)… so the chamber/riser below burner and above valve holds some quantity of kerosene that needs some time to be consumed.

Especially on shut off… when you close the valve the burner keeps burning until all the residual kerosene is consumed.

Thanks for the info Nicola, a very interesting conversion, I've been reading all the available information.

 

@gieorgijewski this is my idea about:

1: you can use any type of burner with integrated valve, roarer or silent
2: replacing burner is then cheaper
3: integrated valve “protects” the torch system, so if user needs to replace burner is not forced to use another regulated one to keep the torch function

Hi @Håvard Kvernelv What a wonderful score, i adore Radius stoves they are one of my favourite of all, to have a version with a regulator valve is even better, i am looking forward in seeing it cleaned up a bit and fired up, well done there
