Me again! I have been trying to find silent burner and am informed that a no5 burner will fit in place of roarer one I have. problem is I cant seem to find one all the places I look only seem to have the roarer ones available anyone know where I can get one ? Thanks Alan
A generic No.5 - typical 2 pint domestic stove with fixed pot-holder legs and silent burner must be just about the most common stove there is. Find a secondhand one , ideally from something with a damaged fount, perhaps with stress cracks, but make sure it has the inner and outer burner caps with it.
Thanks for reply I guess thats the best option - just not sure which stoves have burner that fits mine they all look alike in pics in ads. wondered if some one has made a list of cross references or thread sizes? Alan
@hooky I doubt there is a list but to simplify a no5 size burner has an 18 mm thread whereas 1 pint stoves have a 14 mm thread . A quick list off the top of my head Optimus no 5 and 48, also stoves by Burmos,Primus ,Radius,Valor,Buflam,RM, SH&S , the commonest in the UK Parasene, Monitor, Svea and there are more, all should fit. You can also buy a new Indian (I think) burner from eBayer Juliand (Tilly lamps and Primus stoves) or a new Optimus burner from Base-camp. If you are undecided on whether a likely burner will fit then ask us. Be patient and one will come along. Firstly you should get a flame spreader for your roarer burner and get your stove up and running . Regards Dave.
Hi firestarter Thanks that makes it a lot clearer also knowing the thread sizes means if I did get a wrong un I could always sort out a way to adapt thread size Alan
If you are like the rest of us and you get an incompatible burner you will start looking for a stove to fit it to. I have a couple of burners just waiting for the right stove to come along at the right price
Hi Firestarter just cleaned up roarer burner fitted to my primus 100 and measured thread and its 14mm not 18 so do i still need silent burner from no5 type or has someone changed the bottom part in the past ? thanks alan
@hooky My mistake, must have had a senior moment the thread size is 14mm for a number 5 burner .In fact most of the burners for 1 pint stoves are roarers so you are unlikely to get the wrong size silent burner as only the no 4 burner is smaller and they are quite rare. Dave
STOVE SILENT BURNER KEROSENE PARAFFIN STOVE CAMPING STOVE FROM INDIA | eBay I was wrong to say Juliands sells silent burners but above is the link to an Indian seller .I have not tried them so it's not a recommendation but for information.I believe others have tried their no 2 burners. Dave
Hi Dave Thanks for info looks like most stoves with a silent burner will fit then so 2nd hand stove may be best - i suppose thats how collections start just need a part oh well might as well do it up now ive got it etc etc Alan Ps thanks for link to burners from india will have a look Alan
Yes you look for parts and then decide it's too good to scrap or you can 'save' it. Or you find a stove you don't know anything about and look it up in the reference gallery and think Oh that's cool, Dave
