I posted yesterday about my purchase of a Phoebus 725. After replacing the seals it fired right up and seems to be running strong. However I noticed that there is no adjustment of the flame. I expect the flame to go out when the valve wheel is turned too far anti-clockwise due to the pricker, but the flame goes from full on to shutting off when the wheel is very slowly turned clockwise. Is this typical of a 725, or can it be remedied?

On mine the flame adjusts ok, although it does not go low enough to simmer well. If you watch the short video in this post you will see what I mean.

Your stove at least seemed to able to go from medium to high. I removed the cleaning needle (pricker) from a Svea 123R which helped with flame adjustment. Would that work on this stove?

Removing the pricker/rack will at least let you know if the flame is adjustable in the way you want it to be, but you really should be able to set the pricker rack in a Svea 123R and similar stoves in such a way that the flame is able to be regulated adequately. Having said that, some stoves have a narrow range of regulation pricker or no pricker.

    Cheers

    This is from another thread:

    Setting the cleaning needle
on an Optimus 8R (or 111 or similar).

    1. Take off the burner bell.

    2. Unscrew the nipple (jet).

    3. Turn the control wheel (or key) fully to the left and take out the needle.

    4. Turn the control wheel fully to the right.

    5. Using a pencil with an eraser in the top to hold the wire of the cleaning needle straight and steady, place the new needle back into the burner with its teeth facing the teeth of the control spindle.

    6. Keeping a slight but steady pressure on the needle, turn the control wheel to the left until you hear 4 or 5 clicks (the sound is the cogs meshing as the needle mates with the spindle).

    7. Turn the control wheel fully to the right and replace the nipple firmly.

The control wheel should now have an arc of about 1/3 of a turn from "off" to "clean". The needle should appear in the clean position and not be seen as you travel to off.

With the needle out, the stove should run properly and shut off properly. A lot of stovies use these stoves without the cleaning needle, and use an external pricker to clean the jet.

    Cheers

Thanks for the replies. I have set the cleaning needle on Svea 123R's. I noticed that the spare cleaning needle for the 725 screws onto the valve and has no gear rack on it, unlike a 123R.

Emmmm... The 725 uses a rack with a cone valve. When the handle is turned clockwise, the cone closes the valve. This is absolutely normal valve operation.

You closed the valve by turning it counterclockwise.
In this case, the needle may jam in the jet orifice as it cools.

Just lit mine to see if I could turn it down. It would be tough to get a low simmer, but it certainly goes full throttle roar and then a good slow burn
