    I also bought a 400 that had clearly been in a fire for cheap. I figured if it was in bad shape I’d take its gen and use it on my 400a (currently with cracked gen).
    Anyway I got it yesterday and it fired right up so I can’t steal its generator haha. Despite the sooty black marks on it from its being in a fire in a previous life, it cleaned up really well with a little elbow grease, vinegar, and naval jelly for the more rusty parts. So— the bad news is my search to fix my 400a’s gen continues.

    I saw someone mention this in another thread somewhere - to fix their cracked flare they just cut off the end of the gen, and flared the freshly trimmed end. I think there’s enough slack in the tube to support this and still fit…

    Pack the tube with sand before bending to hold shape.

    Do those spring form things work? They sell the kits for cheap and they’re meant for this purpose.

    I have thought this however how do you close the tube ends in order to hold the sand in place?

    the spring benders work. If you gently bend it. But the gens are very difficult to kink, as there's a spring inside.

    @Tony Press

    Plain copper tube has performed very well. I was afraid of the oxydation too like cheap solderin iron's tip however due to excessive heat emitted from the burner, copper tube deoxydise and gains brass like color. You can see my stove at my "Reborn 400A stove" thread in this forum. High temperature and carbon atoms around seem to grab oxygen atoms from the copper (I'm guessing it)
