@tretop Thanks for sharing that wonderful photo- so much detail! The flask, enamel mug, wonderful tent... and that design of kettle has made a comeback in recent years too. I find those older German stormcookers fascinating, I'd love to get hold of one but they are seldom seen in the UK.
Nice to see I'm not the only one who will spread out a mess like that when camping! Nice stove. One wonders if it was alcohol or solid fueled. Could it be the ellusive G.Bing Alpina?
The windscreen pattern looks exactly like a "Pfadfinder" (= Scout) alcohol cook kit, made by Gröninger in Switzerland. Catalogue picture from 1914: (catalogue courtesy of the Swiss Economic Archives at the University of Basel library) To the best of my current knowledge, Gröninger kept this set in production at least until the early 1950s. I can't rule out that the design might later have been copied by other manufacturers, though. Best, Christina
I remember Dag well from my youth, and in particular the plane crash. The only other UN secretary-generals' names I can ever remember are U Thant and Boutros Boutros-Ghali. Cooking on the ground; most unsatisfactory the older one gets, but necessary in some places.....
