Hello members , I wondering if there is any up to date information on adapting for the gas Coleman double burner expedition 9730 . As this is relatively old item it seems the gas canisters are discontinued and fittings are different So I’m looking for alternative gas connectors and gas fuel line with controller.which are up to date . What items do I need to buy to get this stove connected and up and running again . the pictures show the old stove double control valve Where the gas can was fitted so as these gas can are discontinued is there an adaptor I can use to replace the old inside parts .
Adapters are rare, you would have to graft on a part from another stove. Someone will come along with what to do or a link. Duane
Thanks I would be interested in how this stove can be modified for today gas bottles . Be a shame to scrap it
There was an adapter available online years ago. Have you tried searching for “Coleman Exponent Adapter”?
@ArchMc thank you for reply . Yes I have searched for adaptor but it’s only for gas canister , I’m looking for adaptor for the controll head as in pictures …. Someway to adapt it to take modern gas bottle . The fitting will not fit any on market at moment . So was thinking there must be someway to change the fitting .
Do you mean a fuel bottle for liquid fuel. These stoves were made to run on a propane butane mix in liquid feed mode. The Coleman canister adapter for isobutane mix had the canisters upside down/inverted. Like @hikerduane i too have quite a few of the original 170/300 gram canisters but I was also wise enough at the time to get an adapter for each of my stoves. I actually have more fuel canisters than I'll ever use and they are not getting any younger. Some are from 2004.
Thank God I have quite a few of those canisters! I also have one of the adapters, which was a gift from a former CCS member. Both of the Coleman stoves from that family are excellent, and it's a shame that Coleman did not make it easier to adapt both stoves to the regular gas canisters. Sad, really..... - Doc
From my post in Frankies and Mods on one of the single burners. The fuel line under test can be found originally mounted to the Primus Spider and Gravity stoves. After removing the old fuel line and cutting off the end it was threaded with a M5x.5 die purchased from ebay and the end of the tubing slightly reduced. @Jim Hayes , in your case you would have to do this twice and it would give you 2 regulators if you were able to get them. I'm not sure it's worth the trouble.
Here's the adapter I have: Remove the yellow cap, fold out the feet, and attach to the stove. Attach the canister. I'm using one of the small MSR Isobutane canisters, because it's handy. The adapter handles the larger size, just fine. It burns great. Rereading the original post, he seems to be looking for an adapter I've never seen anything like that. These are nice stoves; very compact for a two-burner, and easy to use. It would be a shame to toss it if you can find any kind of adapter for it. ....Arch
In this thread, both presscall and Majicwrench had given me some good advice that I hadn't yet put into practice, because I found some spare parts to repair the stove and leave it in its original state. Coleman Peak 1 Max Xpedition Two Burner Backpacking Stove conversion
Hi all, just a question to everyone. I have a coleman exponent and an adapter. Last weekend, gas started leaking out of the joint near the allen key. Has anyone has any issues like this, I removed the allen key and pulled the joint apart to reveal the 2 o-ring seal. Wondering if anyone knows the proper size o-rings i need to replace these. Apologies for my lack of knowledge. Patrick
I mean the adapter has the leak and it is the size of the adapter o-rings that i need, they have hardened Patrick
