It always feels good to rescue something that seems to be a total wreck.

Duly inspired by the terrific posts on this thread, I looked through my «ladies-in-waiting» box and found this somewhat care-worn, bipedal Radius Nr.7 . It has a replacement Optimus roarer burner .
Here is how it looks as found .
    84493261-6D0E-4034-93E4-5EFE3E986829.jpeg 0F6A99BB-81CD-4567-B27B-832BDC3CA353.jpeg 617A8CB7-AF87-4576-9504-109B86E11B3F.jpeg
l emptied the pump tube for debris and gave the NRV a shot of Ballistol and a quick poke with a bit of wire . The pump leather was somewhat desiccated, managed to revive it.
    The tank held pressure !!
Put some fuel in , primed it and hoped .

The old girl coughed a bit then fired right up !
Well it is a Radius after all .
Propped up the leg and put the kettle on .

Never fails to amaze me how robust this design is , genially simple .
Calling this a result . In two minds whether to resolder the missing leg or keep the stove in pirate configuration with a peg-leg .
    Cheers

@Knee Would you post photos of the NRV disassembled? Nice Deba by the way!

    @AAC Thanks. I didn't work too hard. :)
I located the leak on the spindle, so I sealed it.
Well, and the gasket under the filler cap.
Someday I will overhaul it thoroughly.

@Knee Would you mind measuring it (width)? I think mine is too small. My cap has a larger hole and the NRV seems to be smaller. Works but just want to make sure. Thanks man!

@A A C Fabulous old Radius there, I think it deserves a full compliment of legs... although no need to get hung up on a neat soldering job!

As for @Knee's Deba- that looks like something the pirates buried but then forgot about! It looks like something from an archaeological dig!

@Knee That is an impressively crusty stove that you’ve resuscitated!
    Great job!

Thanks Roger. Of course I'll give it further treatment, but in its current state, it was begging to be posted in this topic.

The Radius No.7 is no longer an amputee . Rest assured my soldering was of similar standard to the other repair on the stove ;)

@A A C Looking better balanced now, no longer qualifying for disability benefits so it's back to work with it! Lovely flame photo as always!

Just found this lost treasure, its a 2-pint Radius with a Primus roarer . As the pictures show further identification is difficult to ascertain at the present time.
    7DC5E385-BEE7-4672-AB17-E713B11D612C.jpeg B03E6BD3-5986-4842-8C85-89117A0223A5.jpeg 5EA91841-1DAD-4BBA-BEB0-3F660FA7DD97.jpeg
Looks like it has been in a barn or some other outdoor store since the occupation, at least !
No pressure release screw apparent and a definite case of self-lightening on the pan supports .
    B53B0A22-D56A-4139-9B06-6CA507962870.jpeg E44B8A5D-7511-45A1-B915-EF27A945FEA5.jpeg
Only markings I can read were on the filler cap and on the bottom of the tank . The Primus marking on the burner was readable after a rub with a wettened thumb.

However, once a Radius, always a Radius and with just a standard priming and no other intervention on my part , it fired up .
Might be a pinhole in the burner coils, but that bit isn’t Radius !
This is the mankiest stove I have ever got to function .
How much should I do to it to clean it up ? Input most welcome
    Cheers Alastair

That is some of the most serious patina that I’ve seen in a while — definitely (not) a shelf queen!
If you’re happy that it’s “safe”, then no need to “clean it up” unless you are curious about what is underneath (as I was once)…

Yes . I kind of like it as it is . It has a sibling I got from the same place , an Optimus No.1s, not quite so rusty and the markings are legible . Ill post it on here later . :content:
