Sweet wife and I just returned from a two week MC trip to Sturgis SD. We hit the Black Hills, Badlands, Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Flaming gorge, Escalante, Bryce Canyon, Zion and the Grand Canyon. We did a total of 3936 miles. We camped the entire way. The stove I was going to take originally was a 111. At the last minute I did a change up and took the Borde bomb instead. It performed flawlessly, albeit very hot. What a wonderfully simple and effective old stove. I really enjoyed using the stove and coupled with my titanium non stick cookset we ate very well. We gathered a multitude of pictures from scorpions in New Mexico to buffalo, prong horns, and grizzlies. Oddly enough, I didn't meet any other stove freaks. Bummer. Rob
Rob, when are you posting some pictures of the trip? There are only a few stoves I would buy now, and one of them is the Borde; I like the small petrol stoves like the Borde, 123, 71/80, great little burners; I just wish Coleman fuel was not ?10 a litre in the UK
TTBOMK new Bordes are readily available but they will set you back a good 60 quid. I'll see if I can dig out the appropriate web address if you're interested.

It burned fine all the time on ordinary lead-free 95 octane (Euro) car petrol, so this Coleman-stuff would be just a waste of money anyway. Jur

Hi evil, many thanks for the nice photos, good to know that the borde is still using around the world. I used my borde up to now only for a 2 day bicycle trip. What do you think about the fuel consumptoin of the Borde ? My borde smells strongly of exhaust fumes compared with my Optimus stoves, is this normal or does I pobably make something wrong ? What potstand do you used on your trip ? I use a selfmade one tripod, but am unsure about the optimal distance between burner plate and pot. Regards, Christoph .
Christoph, On this trip I used the standard folding plates. I did however on my trip find a way to optimize efficiency by placing a bent piece of a wire cloths hanger on top of the windshield and underneath. This greatly enhanced the performance by my best guess by 50%. I am currently building my own with two pieces of brass. The space between the burner head and the bottom of that pan is between 3-4 cm. I primarily use white gas in mine and didn't really notice any excessive fuel smell. Fuel consumption seems to be a bit high but I don't know if that could be attributed to the fact that the fuel tank is small. It did perform flawlessly though and was a real treat to use. Hi evel, is it right that you use the wire to increase the heat of the "coil Burner" and optimise the efficiency on this way ? Maybe my visual judgement is wrong but I think the tank of the Borde is not really smaller than the Hunter 8r ones. I use only Coleman/Primus fuel maybe It smells because it?s not really used often. at fist the flame burned at only one side, now its more symmetric. Here is my setup: It?s up to now only a prototype, later I?ll improve the measurements and made it from brass, Here the one I made for the Military pot "US Rogers-Akron Ohio 1965" Its very shaky so the next one I am going to combine with the "borde snow shoe" Regards, Christoph
Christoph. I believe that I have the older model. The design on mine is a little different than yours on the end that the cap screws in. I will send you some pics as soon as I take them. My set up is a bit different. I use the two flat pieces that act as a windscreen. When I get done making my new one I will send you some pics of it and see if you like it. I am making it out of brass. I think if you moved your pot a cm or two higher you might see a little better performance out of it. Originally mine was close like yours and when I raised it up, performance increased notably. Rob
Hey, Guys, I'm going to try to post more than one photo, of my own Borde experiment, some months back. While testing my Borde, in it's new home, which is one of the Swiss Ranger cooksets, I successfully scorched the downstairs deck rail!!! So, here's the Borde in it's new home. To make it fit into it's new home, I had to do some filing on the cookset. I rounded out the hole, to make room for the Borde, and it worked out rather well, as this photo shows. Also the Borde worked like a champ that night!! Using the "canteen" that comes with the cookset, I the Borde boiled up a few cups of water in short order. Here it is, in my two favorite stove flame colors: blue and red!!! 8) I hope that this multi-photo posting has worked. Good photo's. Nice fettle too. I have several little traps that I have used. My first was a vienna sausage can. Worked a treat but was only a fill in and was never meant to be a solid addition. Rob
