I don't think I have ever seen a thread on this brand of stove. Here is the URL for the video of how to start it: http://www.britelyt.com/stoveop.htm

Maybe it is just the unprofessional videography but this stove looks just plain KLUGY to me. Does anyone own one they can report on?

umm, these folks live up the road from me... there's a big history on this enterprise, some legal issues, and some interesting discussions regarding the stoves and their marketing

interestingly, it seems that the availability of Petromax lantern clones and parts have dried up in CONUS (oilampman, survivalunlimited, britelyt (distributor, IIRC))

i have had two good transactions w/oilampman and survivalunlimited, else caveat emptor

or, if you want a kero pressure lantern, you could buy an Optimus 200P from TSG for $250! (check the site)

Better to buy a used Wenzel. I got it cheep and it burns smooth and bright. If you really want to get wild upgrade to a metal replacement burner nozzle.

I have three functional Coleman Lanterns (only I don't use my Red Ted) and I am still a stovie. I was just curious about the stove and how it seemed to malfunction several times during the video. I'v seen hit-n-miss steam engines started with less fuss. for $125, I think I would choose an MSR multi fuel.

Hmmmm....looks really klugy...low budget and dangerous. Uninventing the wheel comes to mind....why would you buy one?

    Hi Sparky,
Several years ago, I bought a new multifuel britelyt stove and lantern. The stove looked cool, but wasn't up to the standards that I thought it would be for the price. It put out good heat, but was rather awkward. The lantern I still have and do not use it often. Its basically a chinese copy of the petromax. If I were in the market for a stove like the britelyt, I wouldn't buy another. If I was in the market for a lantern like the britelyt, I'd buy a hipolito, aida or old petromax. Just my two cents though as I am sure others like them. On another note, Britelyt is the reason we in the USA cannot get true Petromax parts delivered to the USA. Britelyt has it all tied up to the point no-one is legally allowed to distribute parts into the USA.

Yup be we in Canada can get parts from Pelam and such. I hear the people from Britelyt are a pain to deal with. A shame really.
Have you tired ordering petromax parts from base camp?

I have no personal experience with them, but everything I have ever heard has never been positive. Several years ago I stumbled on to a discussion between the owner (or so claimed) and several lantern/stove collectors and it was pretty "heated".

We talked a lot about those Brytelite stoves many years ago here. They looked promising. They never did pan out.

The the more I see and read about BriteLyt stoves, the more I thank the Great Whozzum I never sold my Optimus 111B. Thanks to A&H, it's still going strong. I had them rebuild it for alcohol-only fuel and using it with my mini pressure-cooker, it's pretty much the ultimate system for me backcountry skiing.

Anybody know anything recent on BriteLyt? Or about the past "issues"? Instinct always told me there was something fundamentally wrong about that outfit.....
