We went to Hells Canyon last weekend on the Idaho/Oregon border and I took my yard sale finds. There were so many other people in my group with stoves already set up that I didn't get my 413 out but I did get the 530 out and attempted to make some coffee with it. The problem was the pot I was given to make it with makes about 15 cups as you can see.

After a while the stove began getting really hot. Even the fount got almost too hot to touch so I shut it down. Is that normal for that stove? Was I trying to heat up a pot that was too big?

I do not have a circular top plate for the stove and 2 of the 6 pan rests are missing.

It sounds ok to me. Small stoves get hot to the touch when they are run for a while.

Thanks for the replies. I won't worry about it then and I think I'll stick to smaller perc pots. 8)

Yes, the 530 does get hot and yes, the coffee pot is a bit large!
