Optimus 81 Trapper Unfired (extremely unlikely to remain that way) The original price tag says $63 dollars. New Zealand dollars. I this must be an early model as I understand the later ones had a screw off cap on the side that helped prevent overfilling. There is a great review by Doc Mark about the trapper in this tread... https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/3794 Enjoy the pics...
YD, nice.........extremely, fantabulously nice and hard to find. Its on my wishlist come Christmas or birthday :frown: Ron
Hmmmmm... the nice lady on the box does indeed look like she is preparing a well-deserved meal after a long, hard day of trapping (and possibly some ice-fishing and gathering a few berries and edible roots in the late afternoon).
lol. I noticed the bikini lady too. Pretty funny what they'll do to sell a stove, although I'd go for an 81 if it was wrapped in an old burlap sack. Nice one, yellowdog. Thanks for the post & pix. HJ
The stove is now a user, and a very good one it seems. That is one less unfired trapper in the world. I am pleased I decided to light it as I can tell it will be a favourite stove. Dan
Hi Mods I notice this post did not appear in the recent photos side bar, my ego can handle it, but that is how I usually see that new stoves have gone into the gallery. Does it often happen that new reference gallery listings don't do into the side bar? Dan
Just if the idiot who originally set the galleries up forgot to tick the box - 'Show in Recent Pictures'. I checked & Optimus 81 was one such case. I've corrected it now - not sure if it will appear retrospectively. Relying on that feature to see new stuff is fine if you are a regular visitor - if not you could miss so much as it only shows last 5 gallery entries. Great example of this model.
Morning, Dan, and All, Hearty congratulations on scoring that wonderful older Optimus 81 Trapper!! As you use yours, the pan bottoms will become darker and darker, with a sort of brown patina, which does not rub off easily. You will see a definite improvement in boiling times, once that patina has built up a bit. In any case, well done on getting such a nice specimen of that early 81!! Thanks, also for the tip 'o the hat for my review of it, and for your great photo spread!! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
Just checked the price tag. R49.95 from Total Sports. It must have come from a South African immigrant
HI @David it is a good stove. I have used mine now, be careful not to overfill it or it can get dicey, the newer ones have an overflow hole to prevent this.
