Morning, Lads, A recent post about a leaking Primus pump had caused me to think about the differences between the Optimus pump, and the one used by Primus, in their plug-in stoves. I have not used my Primus Omnifuel enough to know just how reliable it will prove to be in the long run. I've used my Optimus Nova much more and trust it completely. But, back when I got my Optimus Explorer #11, it's pump, which was the predecessor to the current Nova pump, had a leak in it's fuel connector, right out of the box. Years later, I got a replacement part from A&H, and the Explorer pump has worked a treat ever since then. I note that the Primus Omnifuel pump still has lots of plastic parts, and this does not fill me with confidence, while the Nova and Explorer pumps are mostly made of metals. What are your thoughts when comparing the Optimus pumps with those made by Primus? Do you think that the Primus pumps will be more prone to leaks, failures, or problems, than those made by Optimus? Mark, the Primus Ergo pump has no plastic where it would diminish the functionality and durability of the stove's operation, my only complaint is the small "O" ring on the feed tube, you need to keep oiled or they will fail. Apart from that, its a well designed piece of kit My concern for the Nova pump is that it's sometimes awkward to tighten without applying pressure to the fuel "in" junction, care must be taken there I think
I have both and I would go with the Omnifuel pump. I like the fact that the intake tube is metal (brass) and not plastic like the Nova's. Also, the Nova's quick release connetion is prone to failure, I had to replace it once and yesterday I had to oil it up before it would stop leaking fuel. Dave (Nova is a pre-2004 model)
