Couple of days ago I saw this a Primus No51 dated 1929 haven't got round to cleaning it up yet......how far back does this type of stove go ? When did this design first come about.....? Bazump
Hi Baz, I believe that the Primus 51 and 54 were introduced as "budget" stoves in the 1920s. This would have been at the time of the World-wide Great Depression and survival was the name of the game for all manufacturers. Primus also made a sister stove to the roarer burner Pr 51. This stove, called the Pr.50, had a steel tank, dull nickle plated. The silent burner Pr 54 had a sister called the Pr 53, again with a steel tank. I guess corrosion has taken its toll and I have never seen one of these steel tank versions. Good Luck with the fettling of this stove.
