IMG_3447.jpeg I’ve recently returned to TAS after 6 months travelling on “The Big Island” to the North.
In that time I managed to gather quite a few “treasures”!
This large “Heating Lamp” appears to have been dropped at some point - obvious from the “lean” on the burner and distortion of the rim of the tank base.

At some stage I assume there was a “Handle” attached to the side.

The pump rod was “interesting” and long too! This presented me a challenge in getting the NRV out for fettling…

It appears in the 1951 catalogue here:

I replaced the tank lid seal, rinsed the fount with nut-slurry and attempted to fire it up with limited success.…

I removed the burner after some effort (thanks Chris @Blackdog) and found the base filled with quite clogged brass mesh.

    IMG_3468.jpeg IMG_3467.jpeg IMG_3469.jpeg

Eventually I dislodged the brass mesh, unrolled it and subjected it to ultrasonic cleaning (several times), re-rolled it and replaced it.
I was unable (and unwilling) to remove the jet. It is too large for any of my current range of tools so I had to satisfy myself with “pricking” it.
The jet hole diameter appears to be 0.55mm as I was able to pas a 0.55mm drill through, but unable to pass a 0.56mm wire…
After “Rodgering” up some riser/burner gaskets (one above and one below the spirit cup) I was more successful with my second attempt at firing up…

As one would expect it certainly produces plenty of heat!

    Thanks!

Forgot to mention the very helpful and prompt service I received from conny@fogas.de to get the appropriate sized “Flame Ring”.

    Nice!

Well fettled. A 0.55mm jet is huge.

    Cheers

The jet should be 0.63 or 0.68 mm depending on whether it is jet 1078 or 1043.

    Thanks @Conny
I was unaware of the correct nipple orifice diameter. The catalogue specifies “Nipple = Part No. 1078” for Model 3084. Therefore I should be looking at 0.63mm..

    Thanks @Tony Press

Great work @Rodger Willows. No handle in the catalogue, so it might well have been an interesting 'in service' modification.

Given the potential flow rate through a jet orifice that size I bet it's got more to give if you manage to make a tool to remove the nipple and clean the burner!

    Roger,

    I might have a small off-centre spanner to suit…

@Tony Press I picked up an Ignition Wrench today (5mm appears to fit), thanks for the offer!
@Blackdog ”1851 - Handle” is in the middle at the bottom of the page and looking at its size might explain why it appears to have parted company…
I might remove the nipple and increase the size of its orifice to more like the 0.63mm - then again “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” or “The enemy of good is better”…

So it is! I missed that.
