Isn't it brilliant, I fettled me Valor 55 with a silent burner and gave it a good trial run in me back garden before taking it camping....the first time in about 15 years that I've taken a paraffin stove camping....now it doesn't matter what I do to it, it refuses to do anything but underburn..just as well I brought me trusty gas stove as backup.!!! I can't remember if I knew how to cure the problem years ago.....I'm thinking that polishing the inside surface of the dome might do the trick.??
In my experience silents don't do very well outdoors; I wouldn't use one camping. Any breeze throws the vapor off and starts a problem, underburning among them.
Thanks lads. I am using it outside but with a windshield around the burner. It seemed to work perfectly well in me back garden the other day, I boiled about 3 pints of water with it with no problems...just as well I brought a couple of gas stoves with me....and me 1939 Primus 96, I'll fire that up tomorrow.
I have a Hipolito 2-pint regulated silent; nice large collapsible. I used it in the kitchen a lot when I first got into stoves 15 or so years ago. It was, and is, very reliable. So I took it on a picnic back then that had been set up as a small reunion of some old friends. I brought the Hipo along, to cook with and to show off my interesting new hobby. No matter what I did, I could not get it to light and run properly. Double, triple primes-- just a sooty yellow flame mess. So much for making a big impression! Back indoors it has always worked just fine.
