Someone was asking about fitting Tilley mantles.
Here are a set of instructions.

Now I'm not saying this is right or that I'm an expert but I alwats tuck the top and bottom back on it'self, thus

Tuck the edges inside using a small electrical screwdriver or the wife's finger nails.
I've found that the mantle takes on a neater, more rounded form when it burns off.

    Hope this helps

'enry if i were to, "Tuck the edges inside using, ---, the wife's finger nails." I be in more trouble than you might imagine. She's a bit daft when it comes to stoves and lanterns, the type we're talking about anyway, but she knows well that her fingernails have no business near the mantle of my lanterns.

    Good drawing Henry.
But I think I will stick with the mantles with the strings to tie.
    I can tie knots

I thought you were having a rest from the forum.
See told ya you wouldn't be able to keep away ;)

All of the mantlles that we get are already tied, you have to force them over the spigots.

Henry I am haveing a break. I just hade an hr to kill before going to bed.
Well get the mantles from Aust. no trouble getting these over the lip.
I know a bloke that can suply them 3 in a packet or by the box of about 30 mantles.
Doesn't matter what size you want He can get them single or double tie.
If you have trouble working out how to tie a knot I can teach you.

When I worked in the shipyard, I was amazed that half the fishermen whose boats I worked on didn't have a clue how to tie a real knot of any sort.

We used to say of them, "If you can't tie a knot, tie a lot."
