Not a bad hour spent wandering around a local boot fair today... Picked up this for £5 :D/

And after a bit of a cleanup...

There was also a leak near where the pump enters the tank that had to be repaired. I think the stove must have been dropped and landed on it's pump ant some point which caused this slight crack. There is a slight bulge on the top of the tank near the letter "R" in Valor which is almost certainly a result of the same fall.

You may also notice that there is a tiny flame below the burner in the first image. This appeared when I picked the stove up whilst lit. I think there might be a slight leak where the jet is screwed in but I haven't tried to tighten it yet. Releasing a bit of pressure and then pumping up again made the flame go away and it doesn't seem to affect the operation - the stove burns very well.

The numbers on the bottom of the tank are 1047, so hopefully I'm right in assuming a date of October 1947?

By the way, I also picked this up for £1.50...

Can you still get the cartridges?

I should think so, they are still available here in the US. Not even very expensive.

Nice Valor and a great price you paid for it. I have a Valor and paid a little bit more for it than you did. Ok, a lot more, but not a whole lot more.

    Looks like it works great.

I seems to be collecting Valor stoves almost by accident! I already had the Valor Packaway I got from eBay a while back and a Valor 64 wick stove and now this by pure chance...

As I was wondering around the boot fair after I bought it I was approached by an Indian woman who was keen to tell me that her parents still cook on one of those back in India. In fact several people also asked be about it as I was walking around, so these stoves do attract a fair bit of attention and interest.

Re. The gas stove. Is there a part number or something for the cartridges or is there just a standard size?

Hi Gneiss, these gas cans are still for sale around the globe, many different makes and colours. The originals (the bleu Cgas ones) mostly are the most expensive. Best thing is to look out for them in D-I-Y stores and compare prices.

    Best regards,

    Wim

Well I'm certainly going to need some now!

Another day, another boot fair and this time I came away with these for the princely sum of £7 for the pair.

    Hi Gneiss

    Great set of finds!

The gas cartridges are I believe the pierceable type and can only be removed when empty. If this is the case they are most likely to be the C206 type and are readily available from camping and hardware shops.

    Regards, Jeremy

Thanks I'll get some of the c206 cartridges in. I seems that adding the cartridge will double the price of my heater!

That little heater chucks out an amazing amount of heat by the way...
