Picked this up today. It came in a box (may be original but it is well taped) with an Aida paper sleeve with two prickers in it and the original instructions and wrench were there too. Can anyone here tell me what model it is and approximate age? Should I clean it up or leave as is?

    Thanks.

I believe it says AIDA 100 across the top of the tank.

    Heya Scott,
    It's German.
For information about this stove check the Catalogs & Parts Lists section, and the Instructions section, in the Stove Reference Library under Germany.
For pictures of stoves like it, check the Petromax & Aida listings in the Stove Reference Gallery under Germany.

How old? Not so old. 1950 or newer would be my guess. It's probably younger than me, though. Others will be along to let you know if I'm off base on that assessment.

It's your stove - ya gotta do what your heart tells ya. My vote? Clean off the dirt. Don't polish. Wax or oil the patina-ed brass. Fettle the internal components and replace the seals. Make it burn.

It would have been offered by the manufacturer with an optional painted tin box for storage and transport. A nicely made wood box would be a attractive addition for storage. Old lunch boxes or cookie tins can be made to substitute. Original tins do pop up on eBay from time to time for the dedicated eBay stove listings watcher.

Ross (spiritburner) can supply you with the appropriate seals and parts set from his Fettle Box store in the margin link to the right.

These are sweet little stoves. Congratulations!
    G

My advise is do not polish it right away.Decide later if you want to do that. You can alway polish it but you can't get that old deep patina back.
Also remember a polish only lasts a few mths before it again starts to tarnish.Your choice.
Like Bernie said above go to the Fettle Box and get some seals. We want to see it in action.
