Hey, Guys, I just looked at the group photo again, and hate the way it turned out here. The photo I posted, after using Image Optimiser, lost all of it's snap and detail, so I'll re-post the same photo later, with better resolution, and sharper detail. Nice pic, Doc, thanks for posting it. No, not the best resolution, but it was such a good weekend, and the photo is from that great weekend, so I like the photo. Looking forward to more. I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed seeing everyone again. Thanks to Doc and Mac for helping me get my Svea 123, Primus 71, and my Coleman 200A lantern going again. Primus 71 needs a bit more fettling, but the problem I was trying to fix ("candle" flame at the spindle) is taken care of. Thanks to Doc for the wick material which seems to be working fine. Special thanks to Mac for going the extra mile with me on my 200A. We finally got it running right shortly before midnight. Zzzz... Oh, and the Saturday potluck on these afairs is not to be missed. Mac and family prepared a wonderful stir fry for us. Doc and SB prepared some fabulous meats and grilled veggies. The asparagus were *wonderful* -- better than I've eaten in many restaurants, and I assure you I'm not "just saying that." The Flivver clan had a delicous quinoa dish for us. Big Jim pinch hit for Ron (we missed you, Ron!) with some wonderful Phillipine style sausage. My contribution was dessert: Fresh baked muffins (cinnamon, blueberry, and chocolate chip). I think the taste was good, but unfortunately they were a little crumbly. Thank you everyone for your patience with my "muffin crumble suprise" (I'm surprised they crumbled that much). HJ
I took a few photos, nothing terribly interesting but I thought I'd share a few. Here's a desert dweller you'll not want to mess with. This is a Cholla cactus. The spines are frequently more than an inch (2.5cm) long. The double "L" is pronounced as a "Y" sound. Cho (as in a Korean person's last name) Yuh. Here's a lovely little barrel cactus with a bright colored bloom: Another cactus in bloom, this time with a pale yellow: Here's a Beaver Tail Cactus: And lastly, here's one in a very vivid shade of yellow: HJ
Ah, well, so much for the flora, but what of the fauna? Well, I did have one interesting wildlife encounter: Big Horn sheep. The magnificent desert dwellers are rather shy and as a result are seldom seen, so it was quite a treat to happen on three of them. It has been about 5 years since I've seen one in the wild. The ram with his head turned away is a magnificent specimen with exceptionally large horns. High resolution photo for those who may be interested. And lastly, we have another desert denizen, a Hikinus Jimus. One never knows what manner of odd creature one may encounter in the desert. HJ

Greetings, Mates, This is especially for those who attended our CASG6 in Joshua Tree National Park. I humbly and sincerely apologize that it's taken me so long to straighten out my photos, resize them, and get them ready for posting here! For the one photo I did post, I was disgusted by the poor quality, and decided that posting any more would have been a real waste of my time, which I could NOT afford to waste. Now, I have finally finished resizing every single photo that I want to post, and though smaller than what I'd like, the resolution is good enough to give a credible view of the wonderful event and surroundings we got to share together!! So, I'll be posting photos of each camp, some stoves, food, fettling, and other interesting things which may tickle your funny bone. I will be posting them in the "Events Gallery", as that is where I realize that all such photos and reports should be posted, and am very remiss in not having done that for most of my other posts. However, today, I have already spent my "free time" finishing the resizing, the posting will have to wait until tomorrow, or a few more days have passed. Again, sorry to have taken so long, Stovies. I am still in need of a wonderful program for the Mac which will batch resize 50-100 photos at a time, and still offer great resolution. I do not want any of the free downloadable programs, as too many just don't work with Macs, and far too many also bring along with them more problems than they cure, IMHO. So, when I have the bucks saved up, I will purchase a top line program to resize, edit, and post my photos here. I have talked to Ross about a few other places where photo posting is fast, simple and offers outstanding results, but I think he is pretty well locked into what we have, which is still good, just too slow, for me, anyway. Hi, Doc, Low res or no, I'm still glad you posted that photo. It's a good memory of a good time. I look forward to seeing more of your photos. I too chafe under the restrictions of needing to resize photos, a tedious and time consuming process. It would be wonderful if we could upload photos and the site would automatically resize them the way Google's picasaweb does, but that might require a lot of effort on Ross' part to implement. Ross I'm sure has more than enough on his plate. Put it on the "wish list" though. HJ
