    @Ali P have you unscrewed the pump knob about a turn or two before pumping? The shaft of the pump is hollow and rides on a spindle that seals the bottom of the pump as a safety mechanism when the pump is not in use. There is a non return mechanism but this additional arrangement is a belt and braces way of stopping petrol squirting back into the pump of the non return fails.

    Unscrew the pump head, pump with your thumb over the hole. tighten back up once you have sufficient pressure.

    Regards
    John

    Here’s a beginner’s guide to your Coleman 442. It’s a good stove. With a little repair work it should be running reliably again.

    First the obvious stuff. Read and follow the startup instructions printed on your stove or from the Owners Manual (a folded paper flyer).

    If the instruction decals and/or the Owners Manual are missing, search this site’s stove reference gallery to download copies. Coleman also has Owners Manual downloads available from their website.

    If the pump is still stuck, that means the check valve (at bottom of pump barrel) is stuck. A common issue after a long storage idle.

    Remove the pump plunger. Spray penetrating oil into the pump barrel. Soak overnight. Reassemble and test the next day. That usually works.

    If pump still cannot pump air, search this site for “coleman check valve removal.”

    Best of luck with your new 442!

    Here is a link to the owners manual;

    Also, your location is listed as UK. Per UK members, Coleman fuel is impossible to get there. They substitute “Aspen 4T” (not “Aspen 2”) or “panel wipe.” These are cleaner burning fuels than automobile gasoline.

    If you must use automobile gasoline, best practice is to empty the tank prior to storing the stove between trips. Gasoline left in the tank for a long time will gum up the pump check valve.
