I've wanted a 505 for quite a long time and finally found one that looked to be in really nice shape. It was also made the same year and month of my birthday so it felt like destiny! Unfortunately the first time I fired it up fuel started spraying out of the generator at the fitting. I initially thought maybe it wasn't seated properly or tightened and so I unscrewed the nut, made sure it was seated nicely and made sure it was snug and tight. When I tried it again the same thing re occurred. Upon closer inspection I could see the generator tube has two very small cracks near the fitting. As you may all be aware it is impossible to find a generator for this stove even though it also looks to be the same one used on the 400, 400A, and 508. I know this is a long shot but does anyone know of a way to seal up the generator? I am assuming soldier would just melt if I tried to use that.
Thank you for looking. I originally got excited when I saw that too but it is not for a camp stove it is for something else. The 505 is very similar to the 576
You should be able to silver solder it (also referred to by some as brazing) with high temperature silver solder, but be careful — the brass is very thin. Tony
