I recently acquired a coleman 520 (1945) on ebay. I successfully fixed a 530 with the help of this site, and wanted to add a usable 520 to the collection. The one I got was in good shape with all parts intact, just the dirt associated with 65 years. I cleaned the gas jet, cleaning pin, NRV, generator and valve. I did not remove the pickup from the fount, but I did clean out the fount as well as I could. The pick up did not seem clogged as it sent a spurt of white gas when nothing was connected to it. It starts and runs well, but there is a little bit of a yellow flame near the jet. My 530 runs like a gas range- hot, blue flame. The 520 doesn't seem as loud and has a little yellow in the flame...it also likes to darken the bottom of pots. Any ideas? Suggestions? Normal? There was a lot of black crud in the wind blocking cup, but most of that has burned off with use. Any help appreciated...

Did you clean the brass screen in the middle of the generator????

Take it out unroll it put some dishwashing soap on it and scrub with an old tooth brush. once you have cleaned and rinsed it well, then dried it on a ra, so you can see through all the little holes re-roll it and put the whole stove back together. Now give it another go. I'll bet the little flame goes away.

I emptied the tank out and filled it with fresh coleman fuel before performing any of the other tests. I also removed the generator screen and first washed it, then cleaned it with carb cleaner and a toothbrush. I then burned off any residual crud with a butane torch. I will say that the generator screen was VERY cruddy and even though I cleaned it as much as possible it was still not completely clean. I was thinking of using some of the replacement generators in the spare tube, but since I have a limited supply I didn't want to use them if I didn't need to. If the consensus is that it's probably the generator then I will use the replacement tube and screen.

Run at least one tank of Coleman thru it, It will clean itself.
