Took a trip thru Eastern Washington...usually take a Campingaz stove, but, that CV206 thing. Optimus 8R I had for years but never lit. Thanks to some research here, she lights up! Better have a fair supply of matches, and it takes a bit for this thing to get going good, but a nice functional unit. Oh, I know the heat sheild is off it that one pic, the tank heats up a tad faster like that. You can see my 15yr old yorkie sleeping in the back, my 7yr old border collie, my solar shower, camp chair etc. Making coffee. And a cool storm. Very much enjoying the forum,
    Keith

Thanks for the pictures - do you have others from that trip you could post? Nice doggies, hopefully they weren't frightened by any thunder.

The 8R's are certainly nice little stoves, and their long production run speaks volumes as to their popularity. If there are no tables or flat benches around, to help protect the bottom of these cased stoves and similar Optimus/Primus/Radius/Enders/etc models you can set them on a short section of 2" x 6"+ or equivalent flat board/wood to protect their bottoms from sand/rock scratches. Also helps provide a more stable and horizontal base. I've used short-sections of closed-cell foam as well, especially in winter conditions to help insulate the stove and prevent snow melt/uneven base during cooking.

If you are still in Eastern Washington (My Home) get ready for another storm tonight. The 8r is very cool design. I would love to find one someday.

Yup, some serious storms over there, made for a rough night, hail, lighting, wind, thunder... I'm back home in Libby MT now. Will likely be making more trips, got a rental house over there that is a mess right now. And that's all the pics, I gotta get better about taking more.
And I do have a couple old army stoves and some coleman backpacking stoves, as well as an un-fired Russian 8R clone, so I fit right in here methinks.

I saw some of those Russian 8R clones. (Flea bay) I sure like the look of them. I do not really know anything about them. But they look like they might have some fun history.
