I noticed this French engineering as I was putting my Ultimus 4 burner away after posting it to the Reference Gallery. Three of the four burners are this type:

Which will probably burn well with the flame guard in place.

Then I notice one burner was of this type.

    1.JPG

With the flame guard in place it won't burn at all because the flame is completely blocked.

The burner is meant to have the flame guard but I don't understand the engineering behind this.

    Any ideas?

Hi Ben, my guess is that the original “furnace style” burner was replaced by a common roarer… it can work only with a regular flame ring…

Do you think it was a replacement or it came like that originally?

You often see a normal "cross" roarer burner having been put on these stoves instead of a "rocket" burner. My guess is that its an aftermarket substitute.

@Nicola Francesco Elia I think you're right that it's a replacement common burner that will only work with a flame ring. I should have thought of that. Thanks.

Source an affordable optimus/primus conventional roarer and trim the material around the feed tubes.
With the rocket flame guard it should function well (or at least look very close to original to the casual observer) 8]

Fogas.se have the correct, though Swedish, burners.

    Best regards
