Bought this a few days ago. Got it cheap. Figured if it didn't work, it was worth the few bucks I gave for it.

    Tank and burner:

Flame spreader is a bit on the wonky side:

    2.jpg
Has one of those pump caps on it:

My rig, haha. Didn't come with a control valve:

    That doesn't seem right, haha:

Although the tank was getting warm, it probably wasn't hot enough to produce enough pressure. Plus, the flame ring clearly needs some adjustments. I don't believe it has a needle either. I turned it to the left while aflame, and it didn't go down a bit. It'll be a project for a rainy day.

    Nice catch.

I try all new stoves outside first time.
On paper .. that might be a possible issue if it leaked fuel.

Does that mean you don't have any, or simply don't work?

And you have the stove on a nice polished table and fuel can on it too! My Mom would kill me if I did that on her dining room table.

That's a pane of glass over the table.

Nice score! Time to find a nice box and build your own 8R.

Glass on top of the table is a good idea. Meths will damage the finish, ask me how I know...

My mind has been going through the paces thinking of what to do with it.

That's a nice table, nice and shiny-dust must without that glass like it. Probably easier to clean too. Getting back to the stove, I see parts like that come up time to time, have picked up some over the years.

    Cool idea.

Thanks man. I normally wouldn't buy something like this, but it was too good to pass up.

Hi, Optimust here, nice tank & burner, I had the same problem when my 8r case was
flattened under a car wheel. When all is fettled you may consider this as an alternative. I modified a UK army mess tin set to house the burner / tank. I think the Dutch Army mess kit is similar in dimensions & is Stainless Steel.

Nice work! A mess tin is an excellent idea. I may even have one.

Half an 8R is better than none. [Old Chinese proverb]
The Dutch Army had stainless steel versions of the British mess tin. Available on the surplus market for a little more than the UK types. Varusteleka.FE was sporting some a few weeks ago. But aluminum will be easier to work with. I like Optimust's modification. Professional looking.
Another option would be the Fake 99: If you can get an aluminum Coleman Peak 1 case, you can mount the Optimus guts in it and use the top for a cook pot.
The flame-spreder is easily sorted out with a pair of needlenose pliers.

Internet went down for a few hours, so I decided to take a litle closer look at this. I had the huge flame when I first got it, and knew there was no needle in it, because it didn't go out when I turned it to the clean position.

Here's a closer look at the jet. You can tell it's been removed before. Also, the hole is huge:

    1.jpg

I got my jet tool out, but it was only finger tight. Removed it, and yep, no cleaning needle. Well, you don't need a cleaning needle to get it going, so I replaced it, and tightened it down with a jet tool:

    2.jpg
I swapped out stoves in my Primus 8R, primed, and lit it up:

    3.jpg
As long as I had the stove pushed in a bit, with something to hold it up a little, it would run, but would not otherwise:

    4.jpg

The two stoves side by side. The Primus is the one furthest away. See the problem?

    5.jpg

How about now? Yep, it's bent:

    6.jpg
    Straightened it back up:

    7.jpg

My next step is to order a new jet and cleaning needle for it, should take care of the problem.
