Thought I was onto something there for a while today.....Playing around agian with junk... Apart from still having too weld and making a vavle seat and seat a spindle etc etc. think the air gap will be to small and there will be a lot of heat around the nipple.?? Was gunna make this 2 pint roarer adjustable and chuck it on an 'ol beater and see what reaction I got from the collectors. Sick I know. Would it work or should I adjust it lower some how to make it work?? Take up gardening? When do you know you have completely lost the plot?? Barra
Hi Barra, Not sure I understand what you are trying to do. Me silly Norwegian, it's to cold up here at this time.
I'd say weld it up and see if it works, if it doesn't you can always try and lower it, although I have no idea how you are going to try that. Making a non adjustable adjustable... interesting
Stuffed that one up!! New seat brazed in the valve stem as the old one was stuffed. Did a s/s one a while back but it wrecked the spindle taper a bit and eventually leaked. I think from the cappy braze or the cooling heating of the s/s to brass joint. New one which I should have done proper in the first place should be o.k. Set it to the re vamped vavle. Nother mistake. Does sort ta work!!! The pricker got jambed in the jet. The jet I remember now has a small air hole in the brass and the pricker caught in it and broke( remember now why I never used it) 'orf then fouled the teeth and broke a tooth on the pricker rack. The spline teeth are a bit small a O.D. than it should be and the pricker then proceeded to drop down into the keeper hole. Now if I decide to proceed with the stupid mongrel thing then I shall need a new jet and pricker ..5 teether.. and re-model a vavle to fit the stupid thing. As you can see it is burning acemetrical. Well it could be the jet. Could be a bit of shite in it. Most likey when I brazed it up I soldered it in situ and the used a clamp to hold it. When I brazed the tubes in place it has melted the solder and clamp pressure moved it. #-o The end where I gained access for the seat and plugged up sunk in a bit and went soft All in all it does work. Yes pretty ammeterish at best and needs fixing straight up. When I have a good tropical deludge going and want to frustrate my self even more I shall waste more of life short time and do something about it. Barra No wonder the wife loves me...( 2 dicks..couldn't be that silly with only one!!!) Cheers
Well got it going but.... The gaps too small I think from the nipple to the burner plate. At just a blue flame its a rolling boil no bubbles but rolls. Pumped up hard it boiled a 3ltre billy in 9min30 sec. Ahh but the tank gets hot.I mean HOT. Lots of thermal feed back into the pick up pipe. It seems that the gas velocity needs to be greater than the 111 opti. to burn well enough just can't simmer!! It is quiet relative to a normal roarer with a rush of air more than a rumble. Yep the joining is agricultural. Never mind. Lots to learn. Now if I ....nahh Didn't know what I would end up with at the start of this project and little has changed at the completion. Bruce
looks like you have the right idea...keep with it--i assume it's a local thing..down there in OZ.. to try and cobble bits and odds and ends together to make something that you can't beg, borrow, buy or steal?
Well it goes!! Lengthened the feed tubes in the end to faciliate proper air/mix/flow. Well I hope anyway 'Cos I won't be undoing it any time soon. Being longer I couldn't really put it on a "normal stove" unless I either shorten the feed pipe on lenghtened the legs Errr just got to fix the tank now #-o Thinking of doing a LANCE job with a dished plate cut out of the bottom out of a junk font. Will it hold the pressure or would I be better off a cap arrangemant?? Think it would be O.k. What 'yer reckon Barra
Hey, Barra, Very neat!! Looks like your new setup could easily fit into a Sigg Tourist cookset, too! Just slide the burner into the side of one windscreen opening, with the tank outside it, an VOILA! Good job on making all that turn out so well! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
I wish I knew HALF of what you guys seem to bout welding. Looks like fun...even if it mess' up, another learning experience. Neet.
More of a but join thatn a fillet but its holding the pressure. Discovered a wee leak in the burner. fixed that one!! Now just playing with the way the gas hits the plate and comes out of the burner. May end up sounding like a 111 yet.Burning crappy agian. Probably needs a clean out after what I just done to it. You could put it in a trangia or sigg set up doc but then you'd have a great big tank and burner haing off it to cart around. Long term project. Started about Oct/Nov last year. And hey its only Easter!!! Trying different plate configurations I put a concave ding in the middle of the plate which I thought would help centreallise the falme pattern. Worked but seem to bugga up the air mix or some thing and made the burner glow real red. Soo...Put a nice ball of silver solder in it to form a ball. Now thats what the other picture of it burning was. Very flighty and flame sort of can dance around the burner a bit if no perfectly aligned. Hmm stopped the whole head redding out as much. Thought I would put it back to noralish and now its burning a bir ragged and rough. Never mind after Iv'e played with it long enough it will either the the worlds greatest..or more likely..a thing that sortta "burns and an sticks 'n don't wanna boil at all." Ooohh(to the song only women bleed ) Sorry for wasting your time folks. But just to annoy you all I may post something more on it when I get around to it. Barra
Bruce i would have silver soldered the end cap not made a new one. Well done lad. You can't know what will work until you try it. That is one thing i like about making things which do not work, work. You get to try many different ideas and processes before you hit a winner. That is what i enjoyed about my lamp'nstove. bits and piceses fit together to make something new/different than what everyone else has. Good on ya lad. lance
