I am waiting the arrival of this beastie...

    43099940_full.jpg

Photos not to flash, will post better when it arrives.

I think an M2 field stove but as yet a haven't been able to dredge up any info...anyone got one, or know about them?

While on the subject...has any body got a good list of stoves used by various military groups? i seem to be slowly acquiring a small platoon of these 'old soldiers' well hardly a platoon maybe a section...they don't seem to come out of hiding very often :-$

So far i have these...Hurlock, M1950 - unused, Lanray 2 pinter, Swiss dual burner (i've posted pics of this one before )

The old hurlocks turn up in NZ every so often, brought back by our soldiers who served with the Brits i guess. As for how the others got here, anybodys guess.

an interesting sub-group of stoves anyhow and the green makes a change from shiny brass...

I wondered if that went to one of the CCS'ers, I was hoping it did. Good deal, looks like it'll be a nice project.

These burn just about anything that flows into the tank but it burns Colemaqn fuel or white gas, or Shellite or Panel Wipe best. In vast quantities i might add.

One of our friends in the British Isles uses one for a heater for his garden. 8)

'Rune of the North' has a collection of NATO military stoves.

Might be worth sending a PM to him.

    hi nzmike

it has been listed for a while, originally asking $300 but the price got a bit more realistic as time went on with little interest. Not a steal at $125 but acceptable i think. I was surprised there was not much interest from military collectors, surely a good addition to an old army jeep...

Just finished fettling a Hurlock i've had sitting around for a while.

    hurlock003.jpg

The one on the left is in good condition, has a brass tank and no rust on the steal parts. Both were missing a flame ring and only one has a wind shield. The green paint is also different shades, scratched and chipped but i like the battle worn look so i wont repaint them.
The one on the right has a steel tank. I've replaced all seals washers etc but still would not hold pressure, swapped the tank lids and away it went. It was leaking from the air release screw.

They are a good stove, the tank get very hot and so they pretty much self pressurize, very little pumping needed

the M2 arrived ...bigger than i expected. Dimensions about 2 foot by 18 inches. Constructed in 1968. The pre-heater seems to be a coleman burner and it has 2 spare generators attached, the generator being the long cylinder running down the centre. Not so much a camp cooker unless your camp is BIG...and you have pack mules...

Here is a pic of it with an 8r

    military004.jpg

I haven't fired it up yet, i'll replace seals etc and check for leaks first, maybe get it going over the weekend...

Hey B.M. note the preheater for the generator, very necessary. these were used in Vietnam at large firebases to feed the troops. My brother used one (really several) in his many times OS.

These will burn Kero but they burn petrol or Coleman best. Remember, they like the fuel,  so pack your pocket book when going to the location where you get your fuel.

I had the chance at one of these long before I was a stove collector. Yeah, they are big, and I wish I'd bit the bullet back then. It would have been cheap comparatively! Nice though. Want one! :)

I finally got around to going through my manuals (4cd's of pdf's) and found info in a fm regarding combat feeding. It show the m-2 burner as the core component of the m-59 field stove. This is a modular stove/oven/deep fryer/diswasher thingie that i'm sure would excite the hell out of all of us. The manual is pdf'd by chapter which is kind of annoying. I culled the more interesting pages and converted them to gif's. Keep an eye out later tonight and i'll post them (as i don't have access to photobucket on this machine)I can send the pdf via e-mail if you want, it pm me. Wait till you see the pages though...

Hi guys, thanks for the info, i will check it out...

In the mean time here are a couple of photos of it in action...

It was not an easy beast to get going, a stovie convert mate from down the street popped in and we set about bringing the cooker to life. Found out after a couple of attempts that it needs a full tank of gas, about 10 litres, to operate as the intake for the preburner is at the opposite end from the intake for the generator. With any less fuel the preburner wouldn't take up enough gas to burn properly.

    military012.jpg

    military016.jpg

It put out a LOT of heat    add a hotplate and would be great for a BBQ.

The heat output could be controlled reasonably well. Also heavy, really a 2 person effort to move once it is full of gas.
