Has anyone had a chance to try one of these? It looks like the perfect way to make a tippy backpacking stove super stable AND allow the use of a windshield without heating up the fuel canister. It just moved to the top of my “need” list. It should also work for any stove that attaches to a lineal valve, so it should work for any brand stove.

I've never had a isobutane stove canister overheat, but then I only boil water or cook pasta dinners for 20 minutes with bringing water to a boil. Too many people fret over this. If anything, my canister forms ice in a rain.

I bought a cheap equivalent to insert a cannister stove burner into a Trangia- which I suppose answers your tipping and windshield questions. The cheap version needed to have the legs removed to make a proper seal at the burner. I presume MSR will have got their dimensions right.

Other companies have made adapters like this and have done so well before MSR released what looks like a new product. I have some from Campingmoon and a copy of something that looks like the Kovea Cobra adapter. They have substantial mass and you can't really use them in liquid feed mode (unless you're brave and willing to do some crazy modifications) while some don't have an valve on the canister end (have to screw the stove in first) and some are designed to take a bayonet cartridge.

I have one, an old one, by Brunton. Not a new design.

Only thing missing from this one is the generator to invert the canister.

No adapter needed for a Windpro II. Still light, canister works in inverted position using stand. By the way, my tablet does not show any image of what you are referring to.

Ah, I see, that is the name of the item. Found it, maybe a tad lighter than my Windpro II, but my Windpro II is designed to also be used in inverted mode for temps under freezing. A piece of gear to upgrade an existing stove, another option.

I got something similar for a differant stove partly for heat/wind shield but to also allow inverted cylinder AKA sucking fumes...
iirc it was a Brunton stove stand, nonetheless, it now sits mostly collecting dust.
In its stead, I use this:
    BULIN BL100-B5
    3500 watt
It sits low and steady, and packs small. 20220129_101128.jpg

I've got another like this but branded as
?oneroad? Can't make out logo clearly but carbon copy.
Only thing that would make it better would be a Piezoelectric igniter. Oh well, one less thing to break?

MSR seems to be targeting their windburner and similar stove systems since they tend to tall and more unstable.

I've been doing a bit of digging on the BL100-B5 myself since it seems like such a unique stove.

Info is pretty sparse. Besides the issues with the fuel hose I managed to come across this video of a Japanese user who successfully got it running on liquid fuel. The possibility of liquid operation as well as the super low price is what caught my attention in the first place as I've not made any progress with my Nova since I posted last year (too "precious" for me to get medieval on it since it's a T82 variant, but equally I don't really trust it as is).

They're currently going for around £18 (pre tax) on Aliexpress and I previously saw one seller listing them for £8. I'm so tempted.

Here's a Google Translate link to their blog post

I have used the low down for 1.5 seasons. It works well and allows use of large pots, like really big ones for cooking crabs.
The biggest advantages are safer operation by keeping your hands away from the hot bits- this is the most important.
And, it allows efficient use of the largest one pound canisters, which are way cheaper by unit of gas than the smaller canisters. Large canisters make the setup too tall and unstable- this is irrelevant for the low down.
