Howdy Y'all. I am camping up here in Pismo Beach with about 300 Vintage trailers. There are some excellent trailers with some awesome GPS. People are selling items and I came across a stove stand that I have never seen. Here are a few pictures. Does anyone know what's toast and this is? Thanks! Chris
Yes. I bought it and have searched online to identify it. No luck yet. I checked out all of the early Coleman stands and have not seen this style even in the earliest models.
I saw that stand and noticed that the slide channels on the legs were different. Back in 2018, member Doc Mark posted a picture of his 1937 Preway stove. I believe it has the stove stand that I do. Unfortunately, I don't think he has that stand (ebay pictures and info stated that the stand did not come with the stove). Still a mystery!
Greetings, Guys, You are right, I did not get the stand with the stove, though I wish I had. But, the seller, who was a nice Gentleman, wanted to keep the stand, and I believe he had plans for it. After perusing the stove that PW offered in that 1937 catalog, I do not believe it is the same as the one you have @seavandal . Unless the perspective is off in the photos, the PW legs look far too thin and spindly to allow for the sliding ground pegs. Of course, I could be wrong. By the way, very nice camp setup. SB and I love Pismo Beach, but have never camped there, for rather at the fairly close Montaña de Oro State Park, just South of Morrow Bay. Thanks, again, for sharing your camp with us, and if I run across any info on the stand you bought (nice score!), I'll give you a shout. Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
I do not see ground pegs. I thought they were supporting the cross members when they slid up and down.
As I posted in the Coleman Collectors Forum (I'm sure many of you follow that site), I resurrected the stand yesterday. I reattached one of the rods with small rivets and gave it a once over with WD40 and 0000 steel wool. All of the scissor points were lubed and all parts straightened as best as possible. To clarify, the cross member ends slide up and down on the attached rods on the legs. All of the parts seem a little flimsy and easily bent.Even opening and collapsing the stand can bend the cross members! Now I have a nice platform to put my Coleman 1. The patina matches!
@seavandal , Well done, and it seems a good match with your Coleman #1. I love that stove, by the way, though I need to repaint mine. Some previous seller painted the case red!! Thanks for sharing your setup, and again, nicely done! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
Thanks Doc and all that have responded. I guess the manufacturer of the stove stand will, for now, remain a mystery. I looked all over the stand for a stamped manufacturer but no luck. After pulling out the Coleman #1, I fired it up and it ran on the first try. There are a few questions I have regarding the fuel tank on the stove, so I will open a new topic. I think this stove will be my go to stove when camping in the future. The trailer shown with my first pictures is a 1956 Rainbow. The trailer I want to use the stove with is a 1936 home built teardrop. Here's a picture of it.
