    Hi All,

I just scored myself this Link on ebay. It's a bit rusty (but nothing that a derust and a coat of paint wouldn't sort out) and it seems to be all there.

While I'll be very tempted to just throw some fuel in and fire her up, are there any show stoppers that I should check for before I jump in with both feet?

    cheers

    Matt

Rinse out the tank w/ spirits, dunk the entire stove in hot water. If you see bubbles, go from there !
It's common that the tank lid seal dries out, it can be replaced easily...
    Here's a tutorial on 8R's :

that looks like a good one for a fettle. I think if I had access to a sandblaster i would take it to my 111's case to take all of the old paint off. then a metal primer and then a good enamel. I'm not particular about getting the perfect hammered blue paint that they came with.

    It's better than these anyway...

Throw some fuel in there and fire 'er up. I'll bet a dollar against the hole in a donut it works jes' fine. If it doesn't then start fixin' it. No particular sense in mending what isn't broken. The only really obvious thing is to check the cap gasket to see if it's still soft enough to seal. Most likely it is.

My old 123 sat unattended on a shelf for more than twenty years half full of coleman fuel. When I tried to fire it up, it ran like new. I see no reason an 8R should be any different.

    But, that's just me.
