Oh, I love the old Coleman single burners too. I found this one a couple of months ago at a local antique shop for a whopping $14. Not as nice as yours but it works like a charm! Your burgers sure look good and tasty. I'll bet they are even tastier cooked on that stove!

Hi Ramsay a very nice stove (a lot of cleanup or just a bit?)it is very clean for its age, especially the burner and the burgers do look very tasty, just got home from work and I am hungry! I've a couple of 502s, but have been looking for a 500 as well.

Sam, 14.00, what a steal! Well done!

Hello: I haven't a clue as to the brand.. All it says on the bottom is 10 1/2" skillet.. Mom got that when she got married in 1946... Mike

Hi.. I have two 502 stoves.. This one I got from ebay.. A guy in Texas had it.. I thought the leather cup was rotten for sure but it was just dry.. A bit of Neatsfoot Oil and off she went!.. I cooked the burgers but wife prepared the patties... She is from New Orleans so you know they are low cal.. NOT.. lol

I took the stove apart and cleaned everything up well.. Both of the screws on the burner twisted off and had to be drilled out and rethreaded.. They were easy to drill out because they are not in blind holes... I think the tap size is 10-24 for the screws.. After cleaning I painted everything with high heat silver from Napa..

I am amazed at how something made in 1949 can still function just as it was intended to...

Nothing made in China here for sure!

    Mike

Hi: I am kinda new to Coleman stoves.. The first one I got was a 415D that some friends were about to throw in the garbage..

It amazes me how much heat they produce.. I suppose it is the Coleman fuel.. I know the 500 will cook very well with a low flame.. Mike

Hi all: I was finding it difficult to put fuel in my stove.. I just noticed that the plate underneath the burner was 180 degrees out of line.. I had to tighten the gas valve on the tank a half round to get it into the right position as well. I rotated everything a half round to put the cut away on the burner plate over the fuel filler hole and all is well... I wonder who put it together wrong.. That is how I received it.. Mike

Sam: At $14.00 I could afford to make the drive from Corvallis to pick it up. Let me know if you see another. You can never have to many 500's, etc., etc. Two of these stoves saved our "bacon" on a two week camping trip when the propane pressure regulator went belly up. They are bullet proof, once you get them lit. See the photos of the Stovie Get-together at Montana De Oro with Doc, Baja and myself. For some reason I was having a bit of trouble that night. Not enough beer yeah know..........?

To get them to go like that requires a special talent that you obviously haven't developed yet. BTW the talent, once developed, is definitely enhanced by a beer or two.
