I just received a shining new Optimus 00 which I bought on eBay. It is really new, unfired. The seller claims it to be of Swedish Military origin. It came with "everything" except the tin box - spanner, prickers, wind-guard, NRV wrench, and spares. The burner head is Radius. 1. How can I find its date? 2. Was the Radius burner originally supplied with these stoves, or is it a replacement? Yonadav
Hi, 1. Unfortunately Optimus didn't date-code their stoves. If the NRV has a moulded unit unit rather than a brass carrier and washer, it is likely a later, post 1960s stove. 2. Radius was sold to Optimus in 1963. I believe their parts stock was used to complete other compatible stoves, so your stove could have been supplied to the Military in this form. Hope this helps. Best Regards, Kerophile.
Thanks, Kerophile. It has 2 spare NRVs that look pretty standard to me. I would still take the Radius burner as evidence for post- 1963 manufacture. BTW, I think I want to keep this stove shining and unfired. I do have a similar used one, so they kind of complement each other. I am starting a search in the attic for the kids' ancient lunch boxes - if I find one, I will paint it military green and use it to store this stove. Regards, Yonadav
Good idea on the luhch box.Just make sure it isn't one of these. 1.Superman (Universal, 1954 -- $13,500 2.240 Robert (Aladdin, 1978) -- $4,200 3.Toppie Elephant (American Thermos, 1957) -- $3,200 4.Underdog (Okay Industries, 1974 -- $2,500 5.Dudley Do-Right (Universal, 1962) -- $2,200 6.Jetsons Dome (Aladdin, 1963) -- $1,650 7.Beatles (Aladdin, 1966) -- $1,600 8.Bullwinkle & Rocky (Universal, 1962) -- $1,600 9.Star Trek Dome (Aladdin, 1968) -- $1,450 10.Knight in Armor (Univeral, 1959) -- $1,250
Hi Folks, I tried to follow the idea of a lunch box for my "naked" Optimus 00. First I tried to find the kids' "superman" lunch boxes from 1978, but apparently I gave them away long ago (or maybe the kids have them). So I visited the toy store today, and came back with this find, which fits the stove like a glove. All that remains to be done now is to find a can of olive green paint, and give it the "military" look. Here it is. Yonadav
- What's in that lunch box? * Ehm, my lunch? - No, the OTHER lunch box * That's for warming up my lunch
