Okay we've all seen the Frankenstove mods but what would your hypothetical perfect stove be? Could be modifications to an already great stove, or a complete mixture of parts from various stoves and brands. Lets stick to one burner stoves for now, would be great to hear your ideas. Cheers -Jim.
Here's mine 8) My damaged 96 fount with a primus No5 silent burner Nice & compact but really powerful 8 pumps & full power 8) Sits nice on the workbench too , not in the way Stu
well mine would be the pot stand from the whisperlite universal the burner from the optimus nova a primus ergo pump a connector from the optimus nova for the fuel line the ability to burn anything including iso/green propane cans a long fuel line a quite cap and a unicorn cause while im wishing i may as well wish for something else
Perfect? Whatever's on the fettling bench at the moment, a bit like falling in love until the dewy-eyed euphoria subsides and mutual acknowledgement of less-than-perfect features arises. This one right now ... hang on, that's it in bits. Assembled ... hang on, you said 'single burner' Well, just one burner from a twin then John
Presscall said : Is that a posh way of saying ... One notices the chips and cracks in the mantle piece after poking the fire ?
I would say a stove which could burn on everything. Like an Optimus 111, but with the design features of an Enders 9061. Perhaps a Svea 123R with as bigger fueltank would be nice to.
My 123 covers most bases, it's hard to think of something I don't like about it except maybe having to pull the wind screen off to refill it. Oh yeah, having to take the key off all the time, finding the end of the valve needle to put the key back on in the dark can be a drag. Mind you, an 8r sized (and weighted!) 111 that runs on kero would be well spiffy.
Well i think to this questions, ten guys, 11 opinions. I think the perfect stove doesn't exist. It depends for what you need the stove. In the moment i'm frettling some, Enders Base, Optimus111 base, and one on the base of a 3,5 kw roarer burner for the big pots. A stove that fit's on all i want, is impossible. The most nearest for me is an Enders 9061 base. Pictures of the theme i will show in the frettlingforum , when it's ready to show. Friedhelm
Hi, Whitegas, Lots of stoves could do quite well in your stated scenario, which is great! I've done longer than that on that same amount of fuel, depending on the conditions, and how much cooking we'd be doing. To me, the "perfect stove" is one that covers most of the bases very well, and there are several that do that quite handily. But, each different situation might call for a different "perfect stove", truth be told! What works best for a long-term, heavy duty base camp stove, would not work for backpacking, and vice versa. That's part of the fun of this great hobby, actually! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc P.S. If push came to shove, and I absolutely HAD to choose the "perfect stove", I could probably get by with a short list of around 12-14 stoves, and call it good!! Close enough, for me, anyway!! 8)
Hey Doc great to hear from you, interested in hearing the short list, also don't forget to use your imagination and create the perfect stove from a hypothetical mixture of the best parts of your short list. And lets give a range of temperatures 0 degrees F/-32 C to 72 degrees F/21 C and an intermittent strong wind.
