    Evening fellow stovies,

I have two Primus 4135 burners that came off a Primus 527 stove. The 527 is stamped AB (1937) My question is about the plug on the burner. As seen in my picture below.

    The burner is stamped.

    * PAT. SV. No. 87773. Eng. No. 425462.

Looking at this page from the 1937 Primus Part Number Reference Book - No:6666
Page 41 of 42. You can see the burner with the plug.

I can't seem to find out why the plug was put there. I can only guess it was needed when making the burner. Drilling the fuel passage way or cleaning out the burner. Interesting. :-k

The patents stamped on the burner can be found at the following links

    Cheers,
    Jeff

Hi Jeff, I have seen similar plugs, they look like un-drilled nipples, on some paraffin fuelled blowlamps. They are mounted on the block from which the vaporiser coils extend and are intended for "rodding-out" carbon deposits which form in the coils after prolonged use.

As you suggest perhaps they were intended to give access during the cleaning of the needle valve of your burner.

    Best Regards,
    Kerophile

Hi, I have just taken a few photos of this Max Sievert Blowlamp to show the blanking plugs:

    Thanks Kerophile,

That is most likely why. The plugs didn't seem to stay around for much as the extra steps and parts were phased out.

Interesting and fascinating history Primus has.

    Cheers,
    Jeff
