Bought this Primus 71 stove with a Primus 1747 fuel primer bottle. The stove has no date letter markings underneath it. Does anyone know what might be the approximate age of this stove?
Is the primer bottle an accessory item or did it come with another stove or lantern? I don't believe it would have been a standard item sold with this stove. Any info will be much appreciated.

Hi, I think the priming bottle is much older than the N°71! The N°71s came sans priming bottle, as they would use their own fuel (white gas/panel wipe/Coleman fuel/w.h.y) to prime (I prefer to use alcohol). Sometimes (on later models) you can find a date in the priming dimple, but it seems some N°71s were not dated at all.

    Best regards,

    Wim

Have checked the priming dimple and the entire stove for a date but nothing found. Unfortunately the stove did not come with a tin.
See there are a number of postings regarding the 1747 spirit dispenser on the forum. Guessing this was an accessory you could purchase at any time.

    Hello odonata.
I like your spirit dispenser. It looks like it is in very good condition.
From memory, I think those brass Primus 1747 dispensers originated in about the mid 1920's as an accessory for stoves(Nr.1's - Nr.5's etc..) and were sold into the late 1930's??
Have a look at the older Primus catalogs for confirmation about that. Cheers, John
