    Hello

I received a nice Primus 96. The only part missing was the windshield.
I cleaned it and changed the washer in the filler cap, the leather cup in the pump and chznged the pipin the nrv which was easy to remove thanks to the tool recommended by @Nicola Francesco Elia.
When I pump, the pressure increases in the tank. I see no leaks.
So I decided to try it… Unfortunately after a preheating with alcohol, I pumped up and I could only see liquid kerosene spreading from the hole at the top of the lipstick. There was no vaporization of the kerosene.
what could be the problem ? There is a mesh inside the lipstick.

The spirit cups on these stoves are very small considering the mass of metal they have to heat- sometimes a double prime is needed, especially if outdoors in any kind of draught.

@Blackdog Ok I will try this (I could may be put a piece of car on felt in the priming cup as I do for my white gas stoves )

Here is how the mesh is in the lipstick. 5440F91E-6CB9-4033-B82D-EB733A8FAC93.jpeg

That looks normal- if there are lots of carbon deposits you can always unroll it, give it a scrub with a wire brush and roll it back up, but that doesn't look bad enough to affect vaporisation.

The carbon felt addition is a good idea with these stoves.

It definitely needs to be preheat a lot. Fill the spirit cup almost completely full or use a wick.. Looks good to me!

@Blackdog @Remus1956 Ok I added a carbon felt pad in the cup and will try again tomorrow. Cross fingers.

I double prime those more often than not.

Push the mesh all the way to the top, some don't need it that far in. Plus if orifice is too large will allow too much vapor or fuel to pass. Don't add much pressure the first half minute or longer, some are good to go sooner. If flame flutters too much, add a little more pressure. The windshield is needed if firing up outdoors.

    @Yannick Michel

    Try this:

Assemble the stove without the burner (but with the lipstick vapouriser); put your finger on the jet of the vapouriser and pump the stove to high pressure. Then take your finger off the jet and you should get a stream of liquid, not a faint dribble.

If you get a faint dribble your stove is not pressurising properly.

    Cheers

    Tony

This morning I tried it ! And it works great ! I used a carbon felt pad in the priming cup. Priming time was 3 minutes and here it is . I love this stove… another one !

Well done. It's running a bit rich at full power, with those yellow tipped flames, so be aware it will be producing a lot of carbon monoxide.

Searching for 'peening' will provide plenty of information on a technique to correct this, although it can be a bit hit and miss and perhaps not needed in your case if you are only using the stove outdoors with plenty of ventilation.

Less pressure will help with the yellow flame. Nice flame at lower pressure it looks like.
