Time to add this 93 year-old discus-shaped No.50 to the SRG, which has the majority of its steel tank’s original nickel plating still intact.

The very small areas of corrosion which needed to be addressed, were successfully removed in my electrolysis tank (similarly undertaken on my No.53) without any adverse reaction to the nickel plating.

Following a gentle soap wash and drying off with a soft cloth, a resin wax polish was then applied to the tank.

Having no dents or dings, the tank far more importantly, had no corrosion-related pin holes present either.

Prior to the tank having its ‘electrolysis bath’, the inside of the tank had been cleaned and flushed with acetone. A Primus No.210 reserve cap fits the No.50 (and No.53) female thread and so provides a perfect seal for the occasions when the burner needs to be removed…stove transport etc.

    ‘Primus’ stamped burner.

‘Primus - Sweden’ on the flame ring and preheat cup.

It had been many years since this stove had been serviced so I decided to take the opportunity of replacing all the seals.

This earlier model No.50 has a brass pump rod which changed to a steel pump rod on later models.

Filler cap and air release design.

Earlier No.50 (and No.53) models like this one have their date stamp on the centre bottom of the tank - which was likely moved by Primus in 1934 to sit under the tank’s brass collar (my 1934 No.53 has its date stamp located under the brass collar).

Brass collar model identifier which is essentially an ‘interference-fit’ and so can be easily removed. Not especially important in this regard if the stove has its manufacturer date stamp on the bottom of the tank :content:.

The steel stove is in very good condition.

    Thanks for the detailed post.
