yes Doug, like that. I ave an Alladin Blueflame, which I have used for some months, heating my "Garage"(known as "Furtebua") (Only norwegians will understand that name) As I am one of those outlaws who smoke, I have to do it outside my house, and I am freezing my butt off. "Furtebua" is nice and hot with the Blueflame lit. But, I want something less smelly.
I have the Corona model that is list on the page with the above link. Do pay heed to the 3 pics that illustrate what is a good flame pattern and what is not. When everything is working right, there is almost no smoke and very little smell- you can still smell it a bit. But you have to watch the flame, especially when you first started it. It will really smell up the room when you put it out so it is better done outdoor. If you have ever run a petromax pressure lamp in the house, the smell is comparable. God bless.
Rune, I have an old pressed tin Aladdin Perfection 500 that is in effect a huge kerosene lamp. The wick is tube shaped, about 2 1/2" diameter and once the heater is warmed up it is almost odor free. I also have a Dyna-Glo household heater which uses a fiberglass wick and has a battey ignitor. It is a radiant heater, very effiective and makes no odor or smoke whatsoever. Thank you Gerry. Why are the heaters so cheap? A corona heater costs 2500,- 3000,- Nkr here. A US$ is 6 Nkr. I could earn me some realy monney selling Corona heaters here.
"Why are the heaters so cheap? " I don't know for a fact, but as always, I suspect taxes are the main reason. I usually search Craigslist when I want something. I paid $10.00 for my Dynaglo along with ten gallons of kerosene from a man who was moving to another state. It seems like most everything I need, I can find on Craigslist. Gerry
Taxes can be a big factor, but another large factor is the fact that the US is a continental market for manufactured goods. This drives price down. For example, until very recent years, border states like Washington would be the destinations for endless streams of busloads of Canadians coming to shop at the malls and the like. This was true even with unfavorable exchange rates; finally the rates got so bad that this has gone way down. But the reason was simply that historically the prices of manufactured goods in the States were substantially lower than in Canada; a function of scale enabled by large population.
