I was corresponding with Jan last week about Stove boxes, and how difficult it can be to acquire them. In particular the one-pint stoves were sometimes sold without tin boxes, and where tins were supplied they sometimes rusted away fairly quickly in moist European climates. Here is one possible solution, The Military look: This "stove tin" is a Camo tin lunch box bought off Ebay. It measures 20cm x 16cm x 10cm which is very similar in size to a Radius stove box which I measured as 17.5 x 13 x 10 cm. It is at least as robust as the original Manufacturers boxes and does offer one option for stove users looking for a container. It is also a bit of fun. Best Regards, Kerophile
Hi, same Hipolito No.0 stove, different container: This is a Polypropylene storage box. They come as a nested set of three for about 7 or US$14 in the UK. This is the smallest of the three. It measures 20 x 15 x 10 cm and easily accommodates a one-pint stove and its fittings, These boxes are robust, light and of course rust-free. The middle-size box of the set of three is ideal for storing an Optimus 45-sized collapsible stove, whereas the largest box, about the size of a shoe-box will take a collapsible stove and a pan-ring. Of course any tin-box of about the right size can be pressed into service: This toffee tin is used to store a South Korean Shinabro 340, which came to me naked. These are well-made one-pint stoves, based on the Optimus 00 design: This particular stove came to me with an interested folding windshield, although I have never seen one like this on a Shinabro before: The winshield is fabricated from pressed steel, and as you can see the two halves rotate to form the tubular shield. I think it is a clever design and wonder which manufacturer supplied it? Aren't stoves fascinating? Best Regards, Kerophile.
And of course you could 'customise' your existing 'grotty' cases .. Either with a sticker .. Or with a case respray ... in a colour of your choice 8) & having got the camera out to take pics of 'custom' cases .... The contents of the smiley blue box marked Manaslu 121. Manaslu 121 .... 1 pint roarer ( same/similar opti/pri/svea .. 00/210/121 Etc) Well hinged & rolled edged clamshell case ..(soft steel) Interesting Manaslu heater attachment ........ also effective as a simmer plate . & the heater well made (like the stoves) but sadly pretty ineffectual ... woud probably work better with a silent. For ccs3 ill do a more comprehensive posting for this Happy/Hippy stove Good post George ..... we expect nothing less A question for all .. What do YOU keep your stoves in .. Some nice' RAT 'stoves , i class as 'custom'8) Nick
Very like the windshield on the Monitor 17b Tourist . Great ideas for the boxes, by the way ... keep 'em coming.
Hi Nick, I do like that Japanese stove...I have never seen one of those before. Hi Spudz. I think you might be right about the clever windshield design being a Monitor. I was thinking this might be my next stove box: What do you think? Best Regards, Kerophile
Hi, I almost forgot, Petty cash boxes also make good stove boxes, but although they are robust, and can come in some interesting colours ( Nick), they can be a bit heavy: This one contains a 1.75 pint collapsible stove, a Radius 17: Best Regards, Kerophile
Excellent , George . Lovely case ........ that'd be suitable accommodation for a Classic British stove .. A Burmos or a Monitor ,perhaps . Nick
ususaly, due to weight constraints, I tend to use a canvas bag, for those that didn't come w/ the orig box that is.
& he keeps his Radius 17 Discus delight in a lockable cashbox ................ You've great style George 8) . Nick
Thank you all ..keep the box ideas rolling. Tried a Christmas time to find a biscuit tin for at least one of my stoves.. All a bit short one way..height mostly. Now armed with a sinister grin and cunning plan ..I'm off to school next week . Preps for the 96'ers 3 rd yr maybe for the 00/210's When do they have smoko and such?? Been a few years since I was game to grace a school gate. Always get a creepy feeling like I'm in trouble and going to get the cuts or something. Tins tins... bloody tins.. they ain't as common as they used to be..Thats for sure. And here I was looking for biscuits and such. Bugga Barra Still thick as two bricks P.s pearl'a windscreen and heater too.
Ya know, Baja? That's not such a bad idea at all. I mean, how many of us have 1 and 2 pinters etc., that came either as a K or simply lost (rust) the orig, box? Most of mine did. I'ld buy a cple.
